Windows 7 RC1 64 vs 32

thanks guys

sorry Im a bit of a noob when it comes to 64-bit stuff...

You can use 32-bit drivers? So I dont need to download specific 64-bit drivers? Im sure I saw on Nvidia's site Windows 7 64-bit chipset drivers

I dunno about the 32 bit drivers. I would strongly suggest 64 bit drivers. But most of the Vista 64 bit drivers will also work.

I didn't find the 64-bit version to be any quicker than the 32-bit version. Am I doing something wrong perhaps? 70% of the apps I run are 32-bit but I have 64-bit on the laptop and 32-bit on desktop, iTunes 64-bit version on laptop and 32-bit version on desktop, I don't notice any performance differential between the 2..

I've heard that a 64-bit OS uses resources decoding 32-bit applications which in turn make the 64-bit OS less efficient. Nothing to back this theory up though...

The one thing I find dissapointing with Win7 is the lack of 64bit applications. Sure 32bit apps work but I want 64bit apps.

My linux system is almost 100% 64 bit apps with the exception of Skype.

Havent they branched out now or something? Still RC1 is RC1 ??

Anything else would be RC2 I would assume. The build number would change as well.

As I understand it RC1 is basically a preview release of the official product mainly for final bug checking etc. No new features at all.

If they had went straight into 64bit, people with older pcs that do not support 64bit won't be able to use the os. Its better for them to make a 32bit and a 64bit version anyway, cos it will just mean more money for them.

well how old is old ? even my athlone 4400 supported 64bits.

typing this using win 7 64-bit... :)

oh and it looks like DT works, though I had to go find the 64-bit version of the SPTD driver.

will post speed results..

ok now Im back on Win 7 32-bit (bye 64-bit)

damn 64-bit started off really well, but then I went to go and play some company of heroes... oh my word!!

im not joking when I say it took like 45 min to install the Tales Of Valor expansion... WTF? Yes it always takes a bit longer on that expansion, but come on that is crazy! It flies on my XP system!

then I actually went into the game and hooked up a lan game with a mate. I was not impressed. when I have artilerary(?) going off on my screen blowing up ***** then its all sticky and ***! maybe its the gfx support, or driver or something... I dunno

so I have gone back to 32-bit, now I just need to go and test... coz I actually didnt play COH in Win 7 32-bit

ya I know... doing things the totally wrong way around here!

:D
