Windows 7 in a Box: Get All System Settings in One Place

http://www.askvg.com/windows-7-in-a-box-get-all-system-settings-in-one-place/

"Windows 7 in a Box" is a small application which allows you to easily access almost all system settings in one place. You can open Desktop Personalization, Task Manager, Registry Editor, Device Manager, UAC Settings, Paint, Notepad, Calculator and many other useful system programs. You can even log off, restart or shut down your system using this small utility.

The best thing about this program is its portability. You don't need to install it. Simply run the EXE file and access all system settings. You can even carry it in your USB drive.

The latest daemon tools works on 7. It even gives you a desktop gadget.

Share Files and Printers between Windows 7 and XP

http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-7/share-files-and-printers-between-windows-7-and-xp/

If you have a home network and are running Windows 7 and have XP on other PC(s) you might want to share files between them. Today we will look at the steps to share files and hardware devices like a printer.

Sharing folders between two Windows 7 machines with the new HomeGroup feature is an easy process, but the HomeGroup feature is not compatible with Vista or XP.

shell:::{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

Paste this into the address field of your explorer and hit Enter - see what you find.

When it says All Tasks, drag it from the explorer address field onto the desktop and you have a shortcut. :)

If someone still likes the classic Windows start menu and can't find it in Win7, here are a few small free apps to bring back the classic start menu to Win7.

1.Classic Windows Start Menu (Nice one, bit better than basic, 32 & 64 bit support)

2. Vista Start Menu (64 bit support, efficient alternative to the Start Menu in Windows XP, Windows Vista and Win7)

3. CSMenu (very basic)

4. Tidy Start Menu (More configurable, from same author as Vista Start Menu, but limited in the freeware version.)

Sorting in Win7 explorer painfully slow

Folders with many hundreds of files, like photos, do sometimes sort painfully slow when sorted by date, size or even alphabetically in the columns of Win7 explorer.

This thread (posting #6) gives a solution, which worked for me.

Drill down to the folder, then right-click on it and click the Customize tab and make sure the default setting of "General Items" is set. If already set to General, try one of the other settings.

Slow sorting in Win7 Explorer

When you get right down to it Microhard really needs to give the new explorer a good fixer upper...like fixing the fking "disable auto-sort" and putting it back for fk sakes, i HATE being told how to go about my dayly routines, im not a child or a idiot...sorry american am I?

I wonder if someone could answer this possible "dof" question please?
eg. If I have a PC with Win 7 Home Premuim installed and wish upgrade to Pro version.
Q - Is the upgrade a "mahala" download from Ms site or do we need to purchase this upgrade?
Thanks in advance and our best wishes for 2010 to all forfumties.

Not free unfortunately, but all you need to do is purchase an anytime upgrade package/key.

Don't know what a mahala is, but an upgrade from home premium to pro is certainly not free. You would need to buy a key for pro.
