WINDOWS 8 killing my ADSL connection - Help!

So I have a TP-Link ADSL\WIFI Router at the office which we use for our connectivity. The thing has been rock solid since I installed it last year.

Today I brought my new Windows 8 laptop from home to do updates over the ADSL. At first I used WIFI and noticed that each time I connected the Laptop to the wifi networkm my ADSL connection would drop.

I then tried wired ethernet into the laptop. Same story, ADSL drops for 2 minutes, eventually reconnects and then drops again!

Only when I turn the laptop off does the ADSL reconnect and maintain it's connection.

I have googled but cannot find a similar problem. Anybody?!
 
I had a similar issue when I upgraded a new Win7 64-bit laptop to Win8 64 bit (via the Windows8 upgrade offer, now expired)

I eventually dumped Win8 and reverted back to Win7.

But I was determined to master windows 8 without a start button, so re-installed Win8 64-bit, and the DSL connection via my wi-fi router is now stable, and does not disconnect randomly.
But I have no idea what was fixed by the uninstall/re-install process though :confused: so this probably won't help you
 
I have a similar issue with my wireless printer- I'll sometimes lose internet connection when I print or I'll lose the printer when I connect the internet. It frustrates me so much!!!
Asked around, no one seems to be able to help.
 
It is very frustrating - I had the whole office screaming and shouting this morning as they couldn't do anything on the internet.

I then removed the default gateway off both the wired and wireless adapter settings and tried them both again. Same story, ADSL disconnects!

So even though the laptop has no idea where to point to for internet access, the damn thing still kills the ADSL...... ARGH!
 
Hi your problem could be your power settings

Goto Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Power Options

Assuming it's selected on Balanced setting click on Change Plan Settings -> Change Advanced Power Settings

Scroll down to Wireless Adapter Settings

Expand Power Saving Mode

Change on Battery and Plugged in to Maximum Performance


*Edit I misread, thought you said your wifi is disconnecting...

Have you tried updating the firmware of the router?

They both were on Maximum.... and this problem happens when wired ethernet is used as well - not just wifi.
 
It can't be Win8 - my home and office systems on Win8 are rock solid stable, wired and wireless. As I'm sure are millions of others.

Gotta be a configuration issue.

It most definitely IS Win8.............. only thing added to the network this morning!

Removed it off the network at 9AM and no further ADSL disconnectes
 
Are you still connected to the local network?

I know there is network driver issues, should it be the problem, rollback the driver and do not update the driver again.

Should you have installed Windows 8 with the problem and it is a network driver issue, install the correct vendor drivers.

Laptop is an out of the box WIN8 OEM install... no drivers fiddled with

Still quite a few bugs in Win8 64Bit, although generally it works pretty well.
Need a service pack soon though..
 
I had my first Win8 laptop connected to the network. And one or two Win8 installs somewhere.

No disconnects yet.

Might be because I'm using Smoothwall... :D

I'm using Classic Shell on one Win8 laptop - makes it easier for the PA to use.

The Win8 UI is designed for touchscreen use, and not for traditional computing.
 
I have torrented flat out through this router (TP-LINK TD-W8151N) So it has been stress tested many times.....

There is something going on on the WIN8 side which is upsetting things and it happens when laptop is connected over WIFI or UTP
 
One more question : Are you using IPv4 your internal network, and is IPv6 turned off on the Win8 installs if it is the case?

I still think it is the driver…

Or by a long shot, change or play with the Wi-Fi channel.
