Windows 8 Payment Issues

Hello there.

I downloaded the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant from the South African microsoft site and tried both PayPal and MasterCard, and got the error message "We could not process your payment, please check your payment info".

Why is this happening? I made sure all my info was correct.
Why is Microsoft using Arvato for their payments? It looks really crummy in my opinion.

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated! Microsoft support is terrible, myBB is my only hope! :)

Regards,
David

Also had problems, think that I ended up being charged twice - will have to log a dispute.

Not sure. Make sure your billing address is correct as well as that your name appears exactly as it does on your card. I paid twice using Mastercard without a hitch.

Same problem here, I've triple checked and done it several times, same error every time. I've tried through Paypal (with the same card) and same error, until this morning when I got charged but got an error when I got back to the Upgrade assistant. I called Microsoft and they told me the Microsoft store call centre (in Germany) isn't open yet. Truly the worst experience ever - thanks to Microsoft.

What ISP are you using?
What are the first 3 numbers of your IP address from the computer your using on MS site?

If you on the MTN backbone they probably haven't sorted out the IP address issue yet

I am with Afrihost, I was previously not able to get to the checkout so I assumed that too, but I also tried with my MTN and Vodacom sim cards and tethered my phone - same problem.

If your IP address starts with 105.x.x.x (check here http://www.whatismyip.com/) then Microsoft is still not recognizing your location as South Africa.

I tried to bypass this using a US and UK VPN service, but that did not work since my CC details could not be confirmed i.e. it's not a US or UK address.

Best to switch to a decent ISP backbone. I used FNB Connect.

Thanks for all the suggestions! If you get that error you shouldn't have been billed twice. It was a problem with their authentication and so if they couldn't authenticate the payment they couldn't take money.
It's solved now and yes, I'm on Afrihost but they fixed the location service a few days back. Previously you couldn't even run the upgrade assistant.

I tried again today and now it works, I got my key and everything now!

By the way, the MTN backbone is really great, it has the best latency I've ever seen on a 2mbps uncapped account! :D

Regards,
David.

Okay, my credit card still doesn't work. I tried again with Paypal, but was very careful with the address, copied exactly as it is on my profile (not using the province line) and finally worked. As to my earlier transaction, the people at the Microsoft store told me to lodge a dispute on Paypal (which one can only do when the order is complete) and they will refund. So it all finally worked out, but such a mission.
If anyone else is having trouble it's most likely the address lines, though I don't know why my credit card doesn't work, I even called FNB to confirm my billing address and entered exactly as it is on my statements but no luck.
