WoW with new uncapped offerings

I am with access uncapped on a 4m line, we could not do the lich king fight (10man) without changing to a 1g capped account (i keep that for emergency).
I had on the uncapped 4m account a latency of arround 4k and as the fight really starts it goes through the roof.
I changed to my 1g standard and was able to play ms dropped to 380 constant ( we did not kill him btw, but almost had him, hoping to kill him tonight)
So all in all a very unhappy experience with the uncapped account :(

the BEST ISP for WoW is Webafrica UNshaped
I have a 4Mbps line and i had an account with them and i got 282ms to 425ms MAX any time of the day BUT they just got TOO expensive
(then R125-00 /1Gb unshaped) but have come down to about R89-00 / Gb wich is still very expensive...
that is why i chaged to Afrihost prepaid shaped...
i have noticed that during "peak" times (7am to 8pm) the ping to eu server darkspear is about 550-650ms and during "off peak" tims the ping will range from 450-550ms...
i am really happy with them at the moment...

With webafrica SHAPED i get 230ms with a max of 380ms...

IS has had a few hiccups lately, but on the whole im happy. Getting between 219ms and 330 ms on afrihost semi-uncapped. Its a great feeling not having to log off of mumble or skype to save bandwidth.

Same :) I'm happy with Webafrica. I have that special they had for R499 which includes the 4096kbps line and 16GB shaped ADSL :D

Me too, but I canceled it and opted for 384kbps and told them to shove their special. I'm not running Uncapped Mweb (with the 1gb WA account as fallback) at quite brilliant speeds. Does about 400-500ms ping time which isn't bad. And it works me out cheaper a month than the R499 special...

I like my 4096kbps line. I also have a 30GB local only account for "other stuff"

During the day, using my Afrihost account (uncapped 512k), I have difficulties logging in. It will get to the part that says SUCCESS and then it just stays there.

Using my WA unshaped, I log in no problem.

In the evenings:
WA Unshaped: 240 - 350ms (with an average of around 325ms)
Afrihost: 240 - 380ms (with almost the same average as WA).

Note: I did not have the login issue with Afrihost prepaid (R29/GIG)

Im on Afrihost 4mb uncapped and the latency is 500-900 ish during daytime and about 400-600 in the evening, WA Unshaped still tops

Mweb is near useless for WOW. 600+ms lag and constant dc`s in 25 man raids. Using a proxy is not at all helpful. They shape ssh as well :(

Now that's just plain dof -.-

I'm happy with the capped account I have...I can play wow any time of the day and won't have huge lag issues even though I'm on shaped WA account.

One day when SA's internet matures I'll go back to uncapped again.

Well I played wow a bit with my 4mb Afrihost uncapped account and latency was 500-800ms that is not entirely useful. This was not in a raid situation. Then activated my Gamemax account again and tried to connect with that. Now here is the weird thing. It does not connect when I launch putty. Somehow SSH does not work on my Afrihost account. I connected with my normal 1gig Afrihost account and the SSH connection with Gamemax works.

Odd. Still dont get why people complain about Gamemax. I always raided with it and works fantastic. Never have more then 350ms in raids on a shaped account.

Tested Wow on afrihost uncapped + using Lower ping and got around 500 -650ms
On Afrihost Capped account using Lower ping had a steady latency of 220ms to 280ms
Both were tested in Icc25

Think i wll stay on capped account :)

Gamemax = dc dc dc dc

bah sad to see it was really hoping to play on uncapped account and not buying extra gigs :(
Yeah, but that would mean you were getting what you were paying for. Not the case in South Africa.

In South African Internet they treat us like cattle in taxi`s... theres always one for one more at the same price.

umm im getting 335ms with mweb uncapped? (and im not using a proxy)

Hi guys. First time posting on these forums.

I bought myself a mweb uncapped (Shaped) account in the hope i could cancel my telkom one at the end of the month. (Also shaped)

But it could not handle playing WoW tonight.

Im on a 384 line and dont get any lag / dc problems using the telkom account. But my new Mweb account could not handle icc 25 tonight. Was having constant lagg and disconnected every try on the last 2 bosses of the night. It was working fine during the day but started lagging in the evening.

Do i have to rely on a capped account in order to play WoW ? Do i have to spend more money to have the uncapped account unshaped as well in order to get it to work as good as a normal capped shaped account ?

P.S: what the hell is dial-up redundancy ? It cost 50 rand extra. Maybe i should have gotten that ?

Firstly from what i've seen regarding 384 ciruits there has been alot of people complaining about poor performance. Also remember the mweb uncapped accounts are not designed for gamers. if you would like the best performance it would be advised to go for unshaped, perhaps webafrica, most of the clients have jumped ship from there so your latency should be good hahah

Hi,

due to tonights problems with Seacom, i finally want to go over to another provider, but want to keep my current 4Mbit 1Gig unshaped account with Mweb, just in case that something else won't work out or if there are problems.
After reading most of the postings I am still a bit confused what I should do. if someone can put it in nutshell, it would be highly appreciated.

Atm, I have the Mweb provider locked router, as said its a 4Mbit line, but that was downgraded to 1 Mbit during a bad spell of connectivity problems. I am on the 1Gig cap, and i buy boosters as needed. If I play daily I am using app. 4-5 gigs/month.

I queried my options for an uncapped solution with Mweb, but I am still hesitant because i have the feeling that my current latencies of around 500ms will get even worse. I used to be on Mweb shaped, and the latencies were around 600-650ms.
On the other side it would be a pleasure to go uncapped so that i could also enjoy other internet content without becoming too expensive.

Here are my questions:
1. which router should I get? any recommendations? i probably would keep the settings on the Mweb router, and if i need to get the other account going simply swap out the router (other ideas appreciated)
2. which provider would now be best for me? I am looking at the Afrihost offerings atm. Obviously the provider should be on another link than Seacom, see today's issue, which was the second occasion that it was down this month :(
3. of your suggestion...which package?
4. By keeping my Mweb unshaped package, I have the line rental already included, and don't have to pay again for that? Currently paying R579 (in the region...)

My priorities for internet usage
1. WoW
2. WoW
3. WoW
4. web browsing, you tube, streaming content etc. (only if i get uncapped though)

Thx for all helping replies! Btw, the reason for my confusion is simply the different opinions and experiences...it seems some people say that Afrihost is good, some say its bad, the same applies to WA...

I simply had enough of unreliable Internet, and if it means that I need a second provider...so be it.
