Xbox One in trouble.

It's still a poor strategy. Asia (not just Japan) is possibly the biggest gaming market - you don't cut them off, you try and make further inroads.
They will, just at a later point with a more focused marketing campaign and more units available. I truly believe they just don't have the capacity available to do a worldwide launch in November.

He he

Fully, and they already developed Japanese and other Asian characters for win 8, wtf?
Japan has a big gaming market of their own. The only companies making good in roads there are Nintendo and Sega. Why they can afford to play second fiddle with the other 2.

If you think American's prefer to buy American, then you've never met a Japanese.

Meh, still poorly handled by Microsoft...

I don't get how it was poorly handled. What, they didn't paint it with enough sunshine and roses?

My only two worries are:
1) Price compared to PS4.
2) At face value, the hardware seems inferior to PS4.

Internet requirement, not so much. Technology always moves forward at a staggering pace, so adapt or die.

No. They only painted it and don't have an excuse for the lack of functionality that made everyone upset.

The DRM is nothing like steam:

1. You could still buy games for much cheaper during the launch of Steam.
2. Steam doesn't have to be online the whole time, only during product installation and registration. You then select offline mode and take you're pc anywhere. no 24 hour sync etc…
4. Steam doesn't monitor your living room and can't be used to invade your privacy to such an extent.
5. The console has lower performance than the PS4 but they're trying to sell it for more due something they claim to be similar to Steam. Steam is for free.
6. Weren't people able to purchase games online on the 360? Did the prices improve drastically on these games over time.

All in all everyone understands their main objective its the "only" part people complain about. Bringing me back to this:

Internet requirement, not so much. Technology always moves forward at a staggering pace, so adapt or die.

Yeah, moving forward by limiting the consumer to certain technologies. Sounds Durrr….

My powers tell me that you didn't read the neowin link that was posted.

Yeah but we have Telkom. When our lines go down for a week, do we just sit and twiddle our thumbs? Hard to adapt when you have no choice in the matter.

Halfway before I got annoyed with the guy's "professionalism" Swearing and attempt to attack the complaining customers. Not to mention still not explaining the "only" part in my post.

Don't know if the bar has been lowered to the point where the retailers attempt to bash their complaining customers and still expect them to buy their product. :erm:

No, because it took some anonymous poster on an internet forum to explain why Microsoft took the route they did, whilst Microsoft's official response is that for offline gaming needs, get an Xbox 360.

Technology always moves forward at a staggering pace, so adapt or die.

Technology also progresses because your consumers buy into it. If consumers are already so deeply entrenched with distaste for your product, almost half a year before it is expected to launch, you know that you have problems. But the attitude from Microsoft is one of adapt and die- so let's see if they can adapt.

Awesome video :D

But also completely untrue unfortunately!

I am in no way happy about how the X1 Team handled the whole fiasco, but here is a interesting read:

http://www.neowin.net/news/anonymous-xbox-engineer-explains-drm-and-microsofts-xbox-one-intentions

First, if that is true, then MS's marketing department really bungled that one badly. They should all be fired.

Second, again, if it is true, I could stomach the attempt to imitate Steam if it didnt require a connection at least once a day, plus, no word on if games will be cheaper. If MS was more upfront about how they plan to price games, I think everyone would have been more supportive. Imagine if they committed to $40 or $50 new games, compared to $60, with the only difference being that when a game is sold, some money must somehow go to the original publisher. I never buy used games, so that would be rad for me. Heck, Steam doesnt even allow used games.

But even if the pricing is good, the DRM thing is a no-go for me. I dont care about Kinect being online all day, they can watch me play Xbox if they really want to, I really dont care. But what I do care about, is DRM, which I KNOW is going to intrude upon the experience. Even though Steam has had years to evolve, even it sometimes has a brainfart and refuses to connect. This thing is brand spanking new and designed for internet connections far better than ours, and I just know it is going to go down. And look at DRM'ed games, such as older Ubisoft titles (thank goodness they had the sense to abandon it), StarCraft II, Sim City, Diablo 3 - it never works well. Early adopters always lose out. They wont lease enough servers, guaranteed, so on release day, you will have a very expensive brick sitting in your living room. I know, I know, once every 24 hours, but I think 24 hours without connectivity is easily possible.

Plus, even if I can connect every day, I dont want to.

.........Please wait, XBox has detected that your Internet is working so it is trying to phone home.....

........Please wait.........

.......Please wait........

......Please wait.......

Xbox has detected that an update for the updater must be downloaded. If you do not download this update, you will not be able to play your games and Kinect will shoot out a laser to eviscerate you.

(and here comes the stupid part)

Would you like to download the update for the updater?

<- No, evisceration by laser sounds good right now.

Downloading update.

Update finished. You must restart your console for changes to take effect.

........................Restarting.............................

......................Please wait...........................

The updated updater you just installed has detected that there is an updated update for Xbox OS. Blah blah evisceration by lasers

/end

THAT is what I do not want. You can take away my used games, but if you have DRM, I am not buying you, I dont care how good Forza 5 is.

I do not see Xbox, Xmas, Halloween and Summer sales that have 40+ titles for $50 special anytime soon, AND that is what puts Steam miles apart. Never mind the Weekly and Weekend deals that drop below $10 or the games that normally drop after the 1st year.

That my friend makes Steam crush second hand games. The fact that games are so cheap its not even worth the hassle to pirate em.

Plus, even if I can connect every day, I dont want to.

That reminds me sooo much of the beginning days of Steam so I have hope for that part.

There use to be a joke about this.

Edit: Found the joke:

This sucks, but we have to move on, heard Gamestop is specifically instructing their employees to push PS4 instead of ONE.

Let me put it in perspective, with an answer from Microsoft support.

In case you only think game hacking get banned, if someone logs into your account from a chipped 360 console, you could lose all your games.

Enjoy :D

Edit: I went to check what happens in Steam just for interest sake: Banning is limited to said game only and not your account, if your account is a problem they just lock (Note not ban) it so you can not add any new games or send gifts and so on, but you still have full access to all your Games you paid for.

Well Steam did have all the same hassles when it started. I think MS should take a page and ensure the same issues don't reoccur. But ultimately DRM is not the future despite publishers pushing it. Really $10 a game is not that impressive when I can pick up titles for R50 or less. The cost savings of digital distribution have not materialised for consumers. People are in fact paying extra for the convenience.
