Xbox Series X / S

I saw EA Play joined the GamePass list.... waaaaaay 2 many games now, 2 little time to play em all :(

A lot of the EA games I'll give a 'meh' but Fallen Order was definitely on my 'to play' list

So far no good. My box does not like my 5G wifi...
App setup fails. Manual setup fails - "cannot get an IP address". Created a guest network, same issue.

Lol, now getting error 0x80a40008

Nah, wifi should work, no matter what. Defaulted to a lan cable now. Then got hit with the sign-in issues. Managed to log in, and installing some games, but now I cannot change settings as it does not accept my super secure, and difficult to type p@SVVoRd.

I suspect they are getting hit from all sides, as even my downloads are extremely sporadic.

Will give it a try.... the Mrs did select to install it on "her" media box, so should be installed when we get home. Well after I check out Froza Horizon.

I can see myself getting a second Series S, maybe a Series X just so I can use a green Ping pong ball..

Edit: Its official, apparently we selling an i5 Media PC now to make up the shortfall for a second Series S. SO lesson learned. Do not demo how quick the dam thing boots + resume or how fluent the navigation is. Even worse that it started playing the 4K movies from Synology NAS without buffer delay's or skipped frames. Did I mention it turns the TV & HiFi on when you press the Xbox logo on the controller....

Yep, first game I played when I finally got in.

My xbox was off when I woke up this morning, is there some setting I am unaware of that powers it down after x amount of minutes of no 'activity'?

Yea, so I also had to google this since I'm not used to consoles, but go to Settings->Power Mode & Startup

Mine is set to Turn off After 1hr of inactivity and my power mode is 'Instant On'. Also if you want it to download games and updates while it's in this mode you have to untick the 'When Xbox is off, turn off storage' option

Most of my games downloaded through the night but the console was 'off' this morning. Turning it on from this mode takes around 4s

Yes, It does seem to have a power save/auto off function.

We added some downloads last night and found it off this morning. 1st thing I did was check was if it finished the list, which it did. So added some more games will see how it goes. This time round I dont think they will complete b4 I get home.

You've given me an idea though - perhaps my Roku in the bedroom needs replacing with a Series S....

/runs off to do research on whether Plex runs and what kind of 'normal' remote is available

Plex does run, as for remote I am in the process of testing different ones.

I don't have a Plex server so can not test streaming or such.

Damnit, took the plunge and ordered mine last night. Cheaper option than upgrading my PC and with the game pass library plus all the games I already own on physical discs, I'll be set for quite some time.

Need to see if I can pawn off my old Xbone for some cash...

My thoughts after the first night:
  • The controller really does fit well in the hands
  • Tetris = MVP :D
  • Muscle memory is a bitch since I'm used to PC gaming where your thumb does almost nothing whereas now it does almost everything
  • Still need to find some nice coop games for the kids
  • Need to figure out how to do task switching better, if possible (I always jump home and then navigate my way around again)
  • Will try some of the first class games tonight (Forza + Gears of War)
Edit: and the neighbours were kind enough to sign for the delivery while I was out, so that's nice :)
