Xbox Series X / S

A few questions though
  • Which security level is the preference? I went for the middle ground, having it all open seems nuts but having to type in a P@sSW0rD each time is also a pain in the butt. Pro-tip, if you have the mobile app linked to the console you can copy paste your password from your mobile based password manager
  • Sign in with the gamepad, what's the point? Seems like a minor convenience, the pin barely takes 5 seconds to enter
  • EA play, I thought that was under GP already but some brief searching suggests only 15 Dec? Some nice couch coop games in there that I'd like to try

1. I set mine at the weakest security level. I don't have kids so I don't want to be bothered by that. Start up XBox and do whatever.
2. My wife and I each have our own gamepad. So if she starts up hers then the XBox logs straight into her account.
3. I saw the EA Play titles under Game Pass last night and downloaded Jedi Fallen Order so it looks like it's there already.

15 December is for PC?

Xbox had the EA Play list added around 19h00? I was in GamePass when I got home then watched a movie and came back and was shocked with the sheer volume of games suddenly available.

Security ditto for us on Solitude's response.

Eish I hope Takelot get stock of the Series X soon. I am planning on buying with eBucks and they seem to be the only option left.

My takealot JHB date now changed to 13 November.
Mine has also now, with no explanation, and after they promised it would come today.

Takealot and Prima Interactive really messed something up with their logistics it seems, very dissapointing.

They should give an extra controller or something to make up for the frustration caused.

Hmm, cause when I looked at some of the games marked EA play it didn't give me an install option, but look on MS store. And once in the store it asks to sign up for EA play for 3 Euro p/m (or whatever the amount is). I'll have to check again tonight, maybe I'm just a noob clicking random things :p

Do you have Gamepass or Gamepass Ultimate?

EA Play is only in Ultimate sub. If you only have Normal I am gonna call you an ID 10 T :p

Mine is set to Turn off After 1hr of inactivity and my power mode is 'Instant On'.
Yep, I set it to the non-eco friendly mode, and incorrectly assumed it would remain on.

Yes, It does seem to have a power save/auto off function.
Completely missed it. Barely spent an hour on the thing.

My thoughts after the first night:
  • Muscle memory is a bitch since I'm used to PC gaming where your thumb does almost nothing whereas now it does almost everything
Yep, I kicked out of that Portal bridge game so fast, it ain't funny. Must still get a hang of it all.

Hows everyone's experience with the HDMI-CEC control of the Series X from your TVs? While the Xbox can turn my Samsung Q70R on and off, it doesn't seem like my TV can turn the XBox on when switching to the HDMI1 source, unlike my OG Xbox One. Also, commands from the TV's remote (to navigate menus etc using the D-pad) don't seem to be passed to the Series X either.

I don't use TV remote, but I did see on the Series S there was options in settings for Remote HDMI settings? Have you checked that?

Edit: Check known issues as well?

Yup, all boxes for HDMI-CEC control are checked on my Xbox, and everything should be enabled from the TVs side. Doesn't seem to be a known issue. I know getting CEC to work is sometimes a pain and the devices don't always recognise each other properly first time.

In terms of buying with Ebucks, I saw stock of the Series X and Series S on the shelves at Checkers Hyper (Helderberg) yesterday, so that may be an option as well
