Xbox Series X / S

Got my series X yesterday, which came as a surprise as I didn't realise Fedex delivers on Sundays. And I was pleasantly surprised when I noticed you can use your old xbox one controllers on the Series X so I don't have to buy a secondary controller.

So far no issues, Gears 5 looks amazing, no man's sky runs like a beauty and Tetris Effect is now my favourite game to just relax.

Thanks - I see only 163 left in stock

Best value for money is to buy 3. That hits the 36 month limit you can use to convert Live to Pass

Just remember not to claim the free month every time you add a card as that will give you 26 months on the 1st 2 and you will be unable to claim the 3rd one. (If you only buying 1 or 2 cards then do claim said free month)

This equates to R1950 for 36 months (3 years) of gaming
Better than paying R5400, so you save R3450 in the long run.

Best deal out there.

Edit: Also note: once converted you can not add any gold cards anymore as it will convert them at Rand value to GamePass months, and that only works if you have less than 36 month's. You can not go over 36.

Work done... check

Now on to better things:
Xbox Series S review

1st off as all of you know, I hate the color... White really the "faq" was Microsoft thinking . Even worse that the mat finish sucks to clean or try and cover in vinyl never mind painting it so ended with a perspex condom to make it stop yelling at me in the TV cabinet. The bedroom unit is ok as its below the eye line when lying down.

I love the fact that the unit log's in based on controller used, so moving my game was as simple as walking to the next room with my controller. My Wife took over the black Xbox one controller and we kept the 1 white one as a back-up.

Using Synology NAS with NFS, Kodi set-up was a breeze. Having problems with Netflix when you swap consoles but I suspect we need to upgrade account. Cant wait for my Pdp remote to come. 4K mp4's start up instantly with no drop frames or buffer time. FF and RW is also instant.... better than the Media PC it replaced.

Onto gaming....
and holy moly does this puppy perform.... seconds after turning it on with my remote I'm into a game. I love the fact that I can simply continue from where I left, this feature alone is going to allow me to play way more than I use to in the past. Like Saturday I was waiting for the Mrs to finish so we can go to a Braai. Normally I would spend that time watching a Youtube vid or 2 as starting up something just made it not worth the effort.

Whole of Sunday was spent in Destiny 2 while my wife watched movie/TV on hers. Best R14k (Ok minus the R4K rebate from Media PC) spent.

Covid December just got a silver lining.... 1st time I am actually excited on not going anywhere.

I see FNB had the series X on offer as a smart device this morning, I was too late to grab one :crying:

As a PC gamer, I am still confused as to how one play point and shoot games without a mouse. I even tried Rainbow six and got my ass handed to me over and over and over again in like the test/training thing for over an hour. Even text entry is painful! My USB keyboard was plugged into the box within 2 minutes of starting up the xbox. Unfortunately my USB mouse did not want to work.

As things stand right now, this console thing aint for me.

Not been playing online at all, 100% local multiplayer/family games so far.
Same here, been a PC gamer for yonks and I just can't get the hang of this controller business. I haven't touched a console in years and honestly considering selling my Series X for to upgrade my CPU to a Ryzen 5600x (system currently has a 2600 in it). Plus patiently waiting on the Big Navi reviews to see whether I should RTX 3070 or 6800XT.

As it stands now, I'll relegate the console to my SO for now as she prefers the console to her PC.

Funny, I have a spare dual shock 4 here on my desk because... you need to learn to use the right tool for the job and sometimes mouse and keyboard just aren't it. After gaming for so many years on the PC, having the lion's share of good FPS games, I think I'm sick of them now and want to play other genres. Except for Valorant, I'm going to play the heck out of that when we have local servers.

Happy 16th Birthday Half-Life 2!

I played Halo on the 360 and the Resistance trilogy on the PS3 and they were fun. Never again. :p

Haha that brings back memory's. My first game was Wolfenstein on a 3.5 stiffy. Bought it from Bruma lake felee market. :D

The frustration in learning is very high, my controller has been air born a few times.
My first game came bundled with this:

Finally arrived today - unboxed (carefully) 'cos after testing I re-wrapped it.

Setup (including updating the controller and the mandatory system update) took all of 10 minutes (if that).

Very solid piece of kit.

My son is going to enjoy this especially when he sees the sheer amount of games available to play via GP.

Same here. But I'm curious to learn how to play with a controller. I sold my gaming PC for a laptop last year and I find myself missing gaming so I want to get an X to satisfy my urge.

rather kak deal (seems to be quite available for me, just checked)

Once you get to the end of the application it shows product is no longer in stock, I'm surprised they haven't removed it yet.

I see, that developer logic. I suppose it was too much work to setup a factory that for these kind of objects to have a visibility flag

or at least a visual cue that reads 'out of stock'
