I Have recently patched my XP from SP2 to SP3 and everytime I run the Patch, after the next re-boot the Internet is dead as a dodo. I tried starting the Wired Internet new service that Microsoft supplies with SP3 and re-booted and it worked, the next morning though on boot up, all Internet access was dead again. The Telkom Supplied Router shows ADSL,Internet and Wireless LEDs fine so the problem is not there. I have rolled back to SP2 again and it all comes back. I did the same thing on a clients machine and lost his Internet on boot up as well. Does anyone else Experience this and have you found a work around?

TIA

Mtech

Just out of interest, did you try and run your internet connection wizard again?

Did you say you got the internet working again when you started that one service that everyone has been talking about? If so, then did you set that service to start automatically on boot up?

You might also want to run through the list of essential services and see if any others are stopped.

Maybe this is Microsoft's way of getting people to upgrade to Vista. :p

Can you access the router interface?

Check you LAN settings. Try setting them manually - making sure you set your router's IP as the internet gateway.

That was my first thought when I saw SP3 had arrived. Well, it would be the perfect crime...

However, it might just succeed in getting people to upgrade to Linux.

I think the OP has run off to post this same request in all the other forums :(

ive just updated 14 machines in my office and all of them work 100%...

Deployed it to 30 odd pc's & laptops on WSUS at the office @ manually installed it on 5 machines @ home. No problems so far.

uninstall service pack 3 to get your internet working. It did the same to my Telkom Mega Router.
Uninstall back to service pack 2 and it works again.
Service Pack 3 seems to hate some routers.
The only way to connect in service pack 3 is to create a PPPOE.

Grrrr! stupid microsoft, not installing sp3 until they fix the problem.

I had this exact problem!! I bet you if you check there is no DNS server shown when you right click local area connection, properties, support, details! I went back to SP2 just to get it working again! Anyone know how to fix this?

Deployed SP3 on 20 machines with a 50% success rate. SP3 seems to hate Telkom routers so that would account for 8 of those failures. The other 2 appear to be driver-related issues which I resolved by uninstalling SP3. Gotta love Microshaft!

I Did set it to Auto and reboot and all worked well until starting up the next morning, which would be the Second reboot after it worked the first reboot. I did go through all the Services again and made sure nothing was amiss there. I will try doing the Internet Wizard again.

I Haven't posed this is too many forums though, but there must be a work around. It's just a PITA to go through the whole process of SP3 only to have to uninstall it again. I Do have another Zyxel Router but then I will have an angry teenager who cant access the Net from her Notebook as the Zyxel doesn't have wireless.:(

It's also no good asking Telkom ADSL for help either which is a pity.

Thanks to all who've responded, I will try all suggestions.

I have my Telkom Router set in PPPOE mode, I thought the only way to do it was PPPOE as opposed to Bridged mode where you supply the password everytime? Forgive my ignorance the IT guys who read this but I am not an IT expert, I Just want my SP3 to work as my PC seems to feel a bit snappier with SP3.

Seems like we aren't alone in this Problem, maybe Marconi will step in as they are the manufacturers of the Telkom Routers which seem to be the possible cause of the problems. Maybe I will report the problem to them and Telkom and see what they have to say about it, if anything??

TIA

Marconi + telkom routers = heap of big shirt.

Same issue prevails when trying to get smoothwall to connect via PPPoE on a macaroni router - it just won't work.
