XP SP3 Kills all internet & Email - HELP!

i might have the latest XP SP3 patch downloaded. Will fire it up this evening and see what happens. I am running the last version of SP3 before the final one came out. I am on a Mega 100WR2 though I am not using the Telkom firmware.

[settings > network connections *double click*
Create a new connection.
Go through it, select the connect using broadband connection user name+password.
enter settings,make shortcut
double click on the icon and connect.

I will try this, but doesn't that mean I have to go into the Router setup and change it to Bridge mode instead of PPPOE?

Thanks
Mtech

I heard it's the DNS settings. To fix it edit your Network settings and change the Primary DNS to the router's LAN IP.

Should fix it

It's obviously working now but it's usually after the second reboot that it stops. But thanks I will reboot and see what happens.

It is this!!! I said this a few posts back! The router detects no DNS server! Thanks though, I will change the setting and see what happens when I reinstall sp3.

I am working on SP3 now after three reboots, but I have a feeling it's got something to do with Telkom renewing the DNS Address or something at Midnight as it always seemed to stop working the following morning after installing SP3. I will know for sure tomorrow morning when it don't work, but I will keep the DNS server settings in mind. Thanks a lot for your input.

SP3 Killed my Internet - SOLVED - I Hope

It is this!!! I said this a few posts back! The router detects no DNS server! Thanks though, I will change the setting and see what happens when I reinstall sp3.

While I was working on something else, my Internet connection disappeared, so I figured now was a good time to test the theories, so I changed the DNS settings from Automatically detect to 10.0.0.2 which is my routers address and now it seems to be working. Can't believe it was something so simple.
Thanks to all those who gave suggestions :o

Finally someone listened to me! I take credit for pointing out the problem! Thanks everyone! lol. And thanks mtech for fixing and telling us how to solve the problem! Now I can install sp3 again! :D

Router: Mega100WR2
Firmware: Routertech (routertech-rohs-ar7wrd-pspboot-firmware-20080331)

Updated to SP3 and internet worked as it did before. So if I remember this thread next time I log into Windows, I'll update if there were no issues then. Of course I did reboot after the SP3 install.

I met this problem before, and figure out how to solve this problem.

There are two solutions to fix this problem.
1. Change your PC from DHCP to Static IP.
2. Roll back XP SP3 to XP SP2.

Choose one of these 2 solutions, then your PC can connect to Internet normally.

After you can connect to Internet, I recommand you to surf the Web site of your router maker or ISP to check if there is any new firmware to solve this problem.
If you find it, it is better to update your router as the new firmware.

Had same problem with some (Telkom) routers.
DNS address not shown.

Solution - go to network properties, select manual setting (no obtain DNS address automatically) and set the DNS address to the router IP address.

Weird problem - installed it a while back - no problems. In fact it made my machine a lot faster.

Can you ping the router after SP3 has been installed?
