Youtube throttling / stop video loading

1.) Is there any way to quickly stop youtube videos from loading? The 'Stop Download' option was handy for when I just needed to grab the URL or get some info from the video information section or something. An extension maybe?

2.) Is there any way to throttle or set how much of the video gets buffered? Sometimes I don't need to watch the whole 30 minute video, and I'd prefer that it only buffered a set amount - like 2 or 3 minutes in advance.

Using FF on Windows.

I have the same irritation with Youtube wasting my bandwitdh lately.

I am a multiple-tabs-type person so I use tab group manager plugin for firefox. As a workaround it allows you to suspend (sleep/hibernate) a specific tab group, so when a vid buffers against my will I just drag the specific page to a suspended tab group to stop the buffering until I'm ready to continue.

It works but it sucks, I'd rather have the old functionality back to be honest.

YouTube does what you're talking about by default now. That's why they removed the stop download option. Just click pause.

I do have uncapped .. just don't like wastage that could have been prevented. Also .. slow line from Telkom.

SmartVideo Google Chrome plugin FTW. But I use it to buffer; you can specify your custom settings.

Oh that's why the videos load so slowly these days. I pause it to allow it to buffer and then play once loaded...explains a lot.

No native settings for this any longer. It is the default behaviour, and the only behaviour. I also have a slow line and it is frustrating that the videos only buffer a little before stopping. I guess this saves on Youtube's data costs...

I prefer it this way. No need for any plugins or having to manually stop it every time.

I don't know what is happening with YouTube lately, video's wouldn't give problems loading, now they do. They removed the "Stop Download" option . What I do now days is I just download the YouTube video I want to watch, that way I wont be irritated by it hanging all the time.

I don't want it to buffer at all, so I've also started to download the videos I want to watch with downloadhelper plugin. No buffering involved then ..

Or upgrade your adsl.
