So having spent the weekend with the phone I must say I'm really quite impressed. Slotted both sims in, fired it up and all set with no issues.

Almost a day and a half battery life, ok-ish camera, quick app loading and smooth transitions. I'm a first-time android user, lumia 800 before so I cant comment in depth, but it gets my thumbs-up if its worth anything

However... 2 questions:

1. How the hell do I change the lock screen pic to match a background pic i've downloaded (I'm using nova launcher and google has failed me)

2. Is it normal that it's already alerting me to internal storage running low! I have downloaded the bare essential apps and a 100mb game. Waiting for a 32gb card so hoping this will solve the issue... or am i missing something here?

Go my first OTA update today. Aside from renstalling instagram which I don't use, ad changing the lockscreen background, anyone have any idea what the update is about? Or where I can get a changelog?

Hi there. My T1 received its first update this morning (2014/06/24). Is there anywhere I can get a changelog of what the update entails? Is there anywhere we can leave customer feedback or report potential bugs?

Zest Mobile Hi. This morning was a basic test to ensure the OTA updates are working We will always inform you when a significant change or update is coming.

They say this, but I could swear the touch screen is a teeny bit more responsive.

I'm also for the idea of rooting and repartitioning the internal storage. There are also a few other niggles I've come across, mostly pertaining to the launcher and apps stored on the phone storage partition. Basically on every phone restart, the icons are removed from their folders on the home screen- using Nova launcher fixes this, so it's a software bug, not the way apps are stored. Same goes for SwiftKey keyboard input. Every restart I have to go back into setting and select SwiftKey as the default input.

Darn just had a look at the OP and see this ...
"Possibly invited: Every Android phone with a kernel build date < Jun 3"

I had JUST updated the firmware and it's sitting at Kernel Version 3.4.67 Mon 23 Jun

Hopefullly someone can try TowelRoot before they upgrade.

Invalid/missing IMEI means networks will not allow it to register. (You might have solved this already, I'm late to the party.)

Nope, still not solved. I'm at the stage where I decided to take the phone back to Afrihost and if they are able to get it onto the mobile network I'll humbly apologise to the support desk agents for being an idiot.

If not and I must get a new phone because this one is faulty...

Anyone know what could be causing the data to turn off while the phone is locked/sleeping. Ie no whatsapp messages go through while the phone is locked.

Mobile data or Wifi? Check your power saving settings.

Mobile Data. Im wondering which slot should the data sim card be in?

As per the Afrihost email :

Please note that your new Zest T1 has Dual SIM Capacity. This means that you can now use your own Vodacom, Cell C or Telkom Mobile SIM card (for voice and SMS) together with your Afrihost SIM card (for data).
If you are using a provisioned MTN Contract SIM card, insert your SIM card into Slot 1.
If you are using a Vodacom, Cell C or Telkom Mobile SIM card together with an Afrihost SIM card, insert your own SIM card into Slot 1 and the Afrihost SIM card into Slot 2.
Always make sure that the SIM card is facing the right direction.

Can't see it making a difference but that's how I use it and it works.

I received my Zest T1 yesterday but so far it's not been that great :(

Don't get me wrong, the device is awesome but there are some problems with the device that makes it hardly usable.
Hopefully it's just my device but whenever the device gets a small bump, it shuts down. It's also loses some information. (Config settings, contacts and playlists.)

I made a video to illustrate the bug.

The device can also shut down if you tap it against the palm of your hand.
Just putting it down on a coffee table or carrying it in your pocket can also shut it down.

I've logged a call with Afrihost but they still to come back to me.
It's a shame because I really love this handset.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

Photos using the Zest T1 itself... I detect an ugly yellow tint...
Also need to check the default settings to increasing the quality - size of these are like ~800KB each, that seems a bit low to me:

That sounds like a manufacturing defect. Probably one of the solder joints is loose. That said: I have not experienced anything like that on mine (then again I am hesitant to drop a brand new phone unnecessarily )

My phone has already survived one chest-height drop-test without showing any adverse affects whatsoever, despite my best efforts of keeping the phone from even performing said test.

The flip cover does not come with the phone, you have to buy one. They give you a screen protector with the phone.
