Zest T1

Made the best decision ever! Sold the useless Zest for 2k. Kept the 1Gb Afrihost sim and bought a Moto G dual sim from Orange for 2.4k !

Much better phone!!!

Who in their right mind would pay R2000 for this phone without first hopping onto Google?

It seems that all T1s have the same serial number 0123456789ABCDEF is mine who else has the same serial number?
Would this cause problems?

Yip..mine is the same.Maybe that's why when I tried to register device in DSTV Now it said device already registered in another users name??

Confirmed, mine is the same.
What's interesting is that there should be a DeviceID (not sure if it's visible to the user somewhere in the menu) that is unique to the device, or should be.

We have a system where we have android apps and we use the device id instead of the serial number for validation because if memory serves, the serial number isn't unique while the device id is- I couldn't confirm this just now but I do remember having the conversation when we wrote our software. Depending on who writes software and what they use for validation, it may or may not cause problems. There are also the IMEI numbers which are unique and of which we have two- one per sim.

Same here Two Actual IMEI Numbers underneath battery (Also Under Status Menu > IMEI Information) but One Serial Number under (About Phone > Status)

I wonder if this could be a result of the re-partitioning. Mine is the same.

Mine is the same as well. :/
Anyone have a vanilla Zest?

I wonder if this is the reason why Snapscan thinks my phone is rooted.

Just trying to register my el cheapo chinese phone on DSTV Now and same story, it is registered with different user....because it has same serial number as Zest T1 :erm:

Same serial or imei number?
What happens when someone's phone is stolen and they blacklist it?

That is an interesting question, I wonder if Zest still reads these posts and would care to comment?

Same serial.

Only the IMEI is used for blacklisting purposes. What happens? Exactly the same thing as when you blacklist any other IMEI: Nothing. Phone merely gets sold in another country.

So I booked a return with Afrihost for my brand new Zest T1 on Monday 01/12/2014. An invoice of R50 was promptly delivered to my email - thank you Afrihost for being so upfront about this fee. The phone was collected on Tuesday 02/12/2014.

I was quite surprised to find that the R140 replacement Samsung GT-E1205Y (Pusha FM) I was using had a speaker that beat the Zest T1 outright. For once I could clearly hear people on the other side of the line! I never realized it, but I would huddle to a silent corner to take calls with my Zest where I could now walk about the mall and communicate without the 'say that again' I had gotten used to with the Zest.

On Wednesday 03/12/2014 I phoned up Afrihost to find out when they expect to the receive the phone. I was informed that I can keep an eye on the return process via the clientzone and that the phone will probably only land the next day, 04/12/2014. On Thursday 04/12/2014 I phoned them up again to hear if they have received any news as the clientzone was showing no updates. While on the phone I managed to get my hands on the waybill that we then backtraced. On 03/12/2014 at 8am the phone was delivered to Afrihost and an Andrew signed for it. Joyce fired off an email to the warehouse to find out what is what and we agreed that I will phone her back that same day to get feedback on said email. Unfortunately I was called away so only managed to give her a call today on 05/12/2014. When I eventually got through to Joyce she promised to walk over to [some place] to find out what is going on. Just after 5pm she dropped me an email stating that she dropped Andrew an email and will revert back to me on Monday once he responds.

So this is where I stand tonight still - They have had the phone for 3 full working days and seemingly no movement:

Zest not yet received.jpg

To their defense though I must state that if their return system scans the IMEI number or use that as the primary tracking I can understand why the clientzone is not showing any updates - my phone was replaced and thus does not have the same IMEI number anymore. But that is why I included my ticket number and full details thereof within the parcel so that the phone could be allocated to my return request.

But alas. Just hope that Afrihost comes to the party in time. I need that refund.

Glad I returned the Zest T1 back to Afrihost! Sound quality wasn't clear from the beginning. A cheap phone has better sound quality by far. I wonder if they selling a lot of these phones on TakeAlot :) I would never ever touch the brand again! They only care about money.. The customer never comes first. I wonder what happen to Zest Accelerate any news!

So Joyce did not get back to me regarding my phone today as promised. Ticket UPL-106-96033 created Fri, 28 Nov 2014 at 13:21 has also gone unanswered. :(
