Soooo... Questions.

I tried to get root on my T1. Followed a guide on XDA and it seemed to work. SuperSU is installed, so is adfree, which requires root, and it seems to work. Also installed root check and it says the device is indeed rooted. ES File explorer however, is still giving me issues. I can't copy any files do my sd card. Internal storage only. Root doesn't seem to help for this. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling from play store- no joy. The root explorer option in es seems to work, although when I browse to (what I assume to be) the root folder, I just get an empty folder.

Can anyone perhaps help or shed any light on this?

I have found ES File Explorer to be hit and miss when used as a root explorer, even on devices other than the T1. When I want to replace or change some system files I rather use Root Browser or one of the others available on the Play Store. Since I don't use that functionality often I still use ES as my default file manager and then I only install one of the others when I need a root explorer.

Thanks, will try out some other file browsers. The main problem here isn't the browsing of the root folder or any of its contents, it's the fact that I can't copy to my SD card from my phone memory using ES. I was hoping root privileges would fix that.

Are you running kitkat or higher? Google made it so only the default file browser can copy over to it. You have to use a PC otherwise.

I have the default rom. Just rooted and cwm, nothing else changed. I just tried the default file manager and yes, that works just fine. I was hoping for a way around this limitation, being able to use es file explorer, as I much prefer it. I'll see if I can figure something else out.

If your OS is 4.4.2 or higher, you will not be able to. Google wrote it so only the default filebrowser can write to the SD, this is a security precaution due to many being hacked via SD.

Ok, so next question then. Is there any way to change the settings and assign a different filebrowser as the default? (Perhaps via some app that would make use of root privileges to change the required settings?)

Well, I can tell you I did figure it out, but not from your link.

So. It's rather easy actually. Get an app called Link2SD (I bought the pro as it's only R23 and change and I was hoping for some other functionality it had, but that didn't pan out).

Reinstalled a clean version of ES File Explorer from Playstore, gave it root access and then the fun part: Go to the Link2SD app, select the app in question (in this case ES File Explorer) and convert it to a system app. Reboot the device and you'll be greeted by that "Android is upgrading" screen at startup, it shows one app being updated (guess which one...) And once boot up is completed, you'e done.

Simples. :)

Also, I've managed to get my WhatsApp and all its group chats to write the eleventybillion media files I receive every day directly to the SD card instead of clogging up phone memory.

Today has been a good day :)

Does anybody know where I can get a replacement battery? Phone was going from 100% to 80% within an hour and then switches off. Now it won't switch on without being plugged into mains power permanently. Tried using a battery bank but still switches off after a couple a calls and cannot switch it back on until connected to mains. From this thread the battery problem a common issue. Zest should replace the faulty batteries at no cost.

Yeah they should as it is a clear defect. But they will not because they do not care for their customers. the only time that they will give something for free is if somebody takes them to court.

Best new alternatives to Afrihost Zest T1 bundle and warrantee void advice

Hi there

Given the expertise of the moderators and users of this forum, I am hoping to get guidance/advice going forward on:
1. An up-to-date recommended mid-level phone data package bundle deal or options; and
2. Advice on whether there is any potential redress to the below:

I have noticed some very real problems with my phone charging. Besides rapidly declining performance and battery life over the past few months, what I noticed from Saturday is a problem with the actual device socket connection where the charging cord plus in. My phone will now only charge if there is a combination of force and particular orientation applied to where the cord plugs into the device socket. I realise that this is a device issue because I have checked it with various chargers.

We would like to inform you that the aforementioned Zest T1 Mobile Phone has been submitted to our technicians as the phone battery is not charging. There is a problem with the connection socket of the phone that plugs into the cable for charging. It is a phone socket problem. Also the battery life is extremely poor.

An assessment was done on this device and we can confirm the aforementioned faults. We began with the “auto test” which revealed no faults. We inserted a Cell C SIM card and tested the device in use and no faults were revealed. We inspected the device for evidence of tampering, liquid damage and physical damage and noted extensive physical damage consistent with impact as well as normal wear and tear as well as evidence that the device has been tampered with as the screw heads also show signs of wear and tear. Fault with the charging block can be directly attributed to impact damage. Battery life is poor as the device has internal damage following impact resulting in a short and rapid drainage of the battery.

Based on the evidence, we concluded that this is not a valid claim in terms of the warranty clauses 2.4 & 2.6 of the warranty terms and conditions. Also, due to the evidence tampering.

The External damage to the phone is also not merely aesthetic and external. The shock of the impact can and does cause structural damage to the PCB board which can, in turn, can damage certain components and soldering. Therefore when we receive a device where it is evident that there has been shock damage / tampering, the phone is immediately void of warranty cover as further damage to components and chipset connection can not be perfect and guaranteed thereafter.

Unfortunately due to the cracked screen and the damage it has caused to the phone internally we regret to inform you that your phone is beyond economical repair as we would almost have to rebuild the phone and there would be no guarantee that it would work.

We will be returning this unit to you on Monday
