Zest T1

What happens if you swipe two fingers downwards on your home screen?
My phone does nothing.
It, however, responds to swiping a finger sideways to bring up 2nd screen etc.
I'm suspect I set a function inadvertently to disable the response.
I can't find it to reset it.
Is there a functionality to reset to factory set-up?
That could work for me.

Mine works normally. One finger swipe gives notification bar for apps, two finger swipe gives the shortcut part of the notifications bar. Sideways swipe does nothing for me at all. I should note I'm using Nova launcher, but it was the same for the stock launcher as far as I can remember. Although I've not checked on my phone, do you have gesture sensing on? It's a shot in the dark, and probably off-target too. I'll have a look at the phone settings and see if I can spot anything that might help you.

Glad I could help, but it's exactly the opposite on my phone- gesture sensing is off and it works fine. Lol.

This is the first time I'm hearing of this type of issue. Have you mentioned this to Zest via their Facebook page? They're pretty quick with feedback :)

Having the same issue as warwickw, even after calibrating the sensor. I suppose it's probably a software issue with the dialer. Hopefully they can push out an update soon! I'll send 'em a message on Facebook :)

EDIT: Sent a message on Facebook to Zest and got a reply in minutes! They aware of the proximity issue and are working on it.

Two finger swipe from notification bar opens the shortcuts drop down, one finger swipe gets the notification drop down

Zest, Afrihost, great job in putting together this deal. For the price, the phone and data combo is pretty decent in comparison to anything else currently available but I have a few complaints.

My biggest gripe by far is the unresponsive touch screen. At times it just doesn't pick up taps, making all typing literally a "hit or miss". I have to slow down my typing and it is a real pain. It makes the phone feel like it lags. My SGS2 performs better than this.

The second issue is, as many people have stated, the partitioning of the internal memory. It actually reminds me of my SGS1 and that was the last time I had issues with "insufficient space to install..."

Are these issues software (fixable in an update) or hardware? Right now, its a toss up between whether I stick with my S2 or carry on with the Zest.

If this battery life continues I will be a very happy camper.

I'm light to medium user. Bunch of whatsapp messages, few phone calls and regular social media views per day.

Not sure if this was raised before but there seems to be a bug relating to google maps navigation. The app just crashes when trying to navigate.

Zest acknowledged the issue via facebook and recommended we use Waze till its fixed via OTA.

Couldn't wait anymore so I picked up my phone yesterday after waiting for more than a week.

First impressions of the phone after doing some testing.

Pros:
- Screen quality good - colours are very clear
- Android Kitkat 4.4.2
- Dual Sim
- Quad core processor makes the phone feel responsive

Cons:
- Biggest gripe is the large bevel especially at the top and bottom. Compared to other Android smartphones the large bevel makes the phone look much bigger than it needs to be so you need big pockets.
For the size of the phone the phone's depth could have been much thinner.
- Battery doesn't last as long as I expected for a new phone. Should have come with a 2000mAh battery instead of the 1600mAh.
- Battery indicated 50% but when I removed the battery to change the sim and restarted the phone it's suddenly dropped to 5%. This could indicate a faulty battery.
- 8MP Camera not as good as my previous phone's 8MP camera
- Phone is partitioned so that only 1GB is internal storage rest is phone storage so first thing you have to do is go to Settings->Storage and set the preferred install location to Phone storage and not internal storage. Despite doing this I've already used up half of the internal storage. There is an option to move an app from internal to phone storage so at least you don't have to uninstall and reinstall all the apps.

Afrihost Sim Card

- I originally put my voice sim in SIM1 and Afrihost MTN data sim in SIM2 and made sure the data network is set correctly to the 2nd SIM but the data network just never wanted to get activated making me think the Afrihost SIM was never activated. However when I put my voice in SIM2 and the Afrihost in SIM1 only then did the phone know to use data when opening an app that wants to use the internet. Switching back again same problem so it seems for me you cannot use SIM2 for data, so in future if both my sims have data I will have to turn off the phone and switch the sims manually instead of using the software switch.

- There is an app called SIM Toolkit that allows you to select the SIM and the get access to all that networks service commands and support numbers for your sim. Only problem is it assumes you are using MTN. So for my CellC sim it doesn't work and for my Afrihost SIM it also doesn't work because the Afrihost Sim doesn't allow allow any service command or MTN support numbers to work.

I seem to be going crazy trying to connect this phone to my adsl/wifi router. Everytime I switch on the wifi on the phone, it nukes the router and nothing else can connect to the router any more  Seems to connect just fine with my afrihost mifi device, but kills the router instantly.

I've just posted about this in the networking section - hoping someone may be able to point me in the right direction.

Finally found out how the gestures work!
Pass your hand CLOSE (really CLOSE) to the light and proximity sensors to:
- Change songs while in the music player (Forward only)
-View next picture in the gallery
- Take a picture

My phone takes a few seconds (+/- 5) to turn on from standby. The lockscreen ring animation also sometimes take a few seconds. Is it normal? Very annoying. My Galaxy Note N7000 with custom Kit Kat rom doesn't do that and they don't even have all the Samsung Exynos sources. Going to perform a factory reset and then see if it improves.

Putting my Zest back in the box till a update hopefully fixes the touchscreen responsiveness.

Thought I could live with it, but it makes typing a lengthy process.

Please help.
I use gmail for email. How do I get the gmail app shortcut onto the primary screen?
