Zest T1

It seems like everybody was making plenty of money off us after all.
3800 units x 2000 = 7 600 000
4000 units (purchased) x 1500*(estimate cost of unit) = (6 000 000)
R10* Cost per gig x 12 months x 3800 units = (456 000)

PROFIT in less than a WEEK! = 1 144 000

The sad part is that MTN smiles to the bank with half of that.

*Using conservative estimates
I don't think you get to just make up numbers, then claim a fact. You've not factored in heaps of business costs: courier, rental, telephone calls, salaries etc etc.

Quite like this phone. The hardware performs well thanks to it running the latest version of Android with all optimizations. I do recommend using the Android L keyboard and enable ART runtime in the developer options for better performance.

One issue I have is that I can't change the lock screen wallpapers to anything other than the stock set, which are nice, but I would like the option. Installing the Google Now launcher also makes the home screen and lock screen wallpapers separate. By no means a dealbreaker.

Otherwise I can recommend this phone. The touchscreen responsiveness is not quite there but it's passable. The performance is suprisingly smooth with ART enabled. Battery life seems good, display is good and the value is fantastic. I'm also pretty sure this will get Android L soon after release, since the Zest team seems to care about updates.

Do you not have issues with whatsapp messages not coming through and wifi not connecting ?
Also does your gps work ie does it get a location fix ?
mine has all these issues which unfortunately for me is a deal breaker. mainly use my phone for whatsapp and gps.

I've only had it a day, I'll report back regarding those issues. Have hardly whatsapped on it, but it did work the few times I did.

Sound like unusual issues, all those things have worked perfectly for me

Gee I wish i could get these to work as then it would be a great phone.
The whatsapp messages will come through but when I am not using the phone for about an hour then the messages stop coming through. if I open whatsapp then they suddenly come through. I have done a factory reset several times and just installed whatsapp with no luck. gmail emails also do not always sync. They will sync if I manually sync.
Google navigation crashes after saying gps signal lost. Tried using waze (as recommended in a previous post) but also says no gps. I can get a gps fix for a short while if I first open an app called gps test. when this gets a fix then I open google maps/navigation and for the next short while it gets a fix.
I have tried the app wifi fixer to resolve the wifi issue of not connecting but no luck as well.
so so far have spent many hours trying to get this to be functional for my needs but so far no luck.

The dreaded touch screen problems... Touches to End Call would not register, took a few touches before it did. Returning to the contacts list, it thought the subsequent touches were to select a new contact to dial. Restarting the phone seems to help.

I think overall its a great phone. I have no problem with WIFI or 3G Data. The battery dies very quickly if watching videos on Facebook or Twitter. My only problem is that at maximum volume the earpiece is still soft. Wish I could increase it more.

Well mine just bombed today.

It was sitting on around 55% battery life, then when I picked it up it was dead and wouldn't switch on. Took the battery out a few times, nothing.

Now while charging it shows the blue battery and as soon as I try to switch it on, a green battery appears with an hour glass next to it.

I wonder if I can still return it. I'll just have to bite the bullet and get a real smart phone. The only reason I got this phone was because my S2 would randomly shut down and/or lose power.

Whatsapp works for me, sound like connectivity problems. GPS is slow to lock, but does work. Occasionally the cellular radios lose connection for a moment but overall its good. Internet browsing, Facebook and general smartphone tasks are a really good experience. Better than a Nokia Lumia running WP 8.1 IMO

I did miss those, they costs will be significant and relevant.

I had the same problem. Turns out there is a small sticker on the earpiece. I removed my screen protector and removed the sticker. Problem solved :)

We are aware of the battery issue and our tech team have been working around the clock on the next OTA update. We will be releasing it in the next day or so and hopefully this will fix your problem (and the other problems people have been experiencing). In the meantime can you try calibrating your battery by charging it fully, then letting it drain through normal use to about 10% and then charging it fully 3 or 4 times.

This is a huge issue, I have tested this a few times now. Charge to 100% use phone and it goes down slowly to about 60% thinking hey battery life is awesome! then booom 14% then 13, 12, 11 and off within max 3minutes. Then it takes forever to get the phone on because it goes into a reboot cycle.

I have noticed a faster than usual discharge, but not that bad ( yet and hopefully I won't).

My phone has not even seen the percentage range between 20 and 60% it stays in the sixties and then instantly goes down to the teens for a few minutes and then off.

Once I get the low battery warning at 15% the phone takes about 3 minutes to die. When it reaches 5% it is like a countdown with 1-2 seconds between 1 percentage drop.

Apart from maps crashing and the touchscreen a little dodgy, mine has been pretty solid. I get about 12hours with average usage(constantly messaging on WhatsApp/hangouts/other apps, a few hours of music and maybe a YouTube video or two). I also use the phone as a hotspot for about an hour a day. For the price I paid, I'm more than happy with it.
