Zest T1

I am getting battery issues. My battery died at 30% without any battery warning beeps. Then when it eventually started up the battery got to 30% almost immediately and and from 30% onwards started charging again at normal slow speed.

Happened on my unit. Eventually got it replaced as it was a recurring issue. Could just be a once off for you though.

So, I thought my T1's battery had died again, as the screen was just black. But looking closer, it seemed like the screen was still on!

Yeah, so turns out that when outdoors, polarised sunglasses don't play nicely with the LCD on the T1...

Doesn't have to be outdoors. T1 screen doesn't like polarised lenses period!

After installing OTA2 update my Zest T1 battery life is very poor.
Straight after unboxing it and installing OTA1 it would run for days, with low usage, without needing to be charged.
I installed OTA2 and now it needs to be charged every day. Also it drops from 60% to cutting out very suddenly.
What apps are active and consume battery power. How can I tell?

I've been having great battery life. One of the things I use though is greenify. I use about 20-30% in 8 hours

strange mine seems much better and phone overall better as well
just did a top up charge on 60% till 80% for 30min now on 30%

The screen polarisation is opposite from all my other phones. If you turn it to landscape you will be quite surprised!

On some phones they polarise the LCD at 45° so that you can use it in both landscape and portrait mode while wearing polarised sunglasses. Most sunglasses are polarised vertically since most glare are horizontal (roads, water or you car's dashboard).

Although because some sunglasses are also polarised at 45° to minimize both vertical (from windows or other vertical surfaces) as well as horizontal glare, so polarising the screen at 45° will not always work.

Hi guys and Afriman:
I ordered mine last night. order processed. waiting for delivery this week, I hope.
I have a few questions:
1. Does the MTN Afrihost data SIM come with the phone delivery or will it be in another dispatch?
2. Will this data SIM work on another device: like a 3G dongle? does it need a afrihost GUI to use the data SIM?
3. if I do not use the data SIM in the phone, can I replace that slot with my other SIM (vodacom on S1 and Vodacom on s2)?
4. Does the data 1GB on the SIM get carried forward to the next month is not used? or is the data 12GB available anytime in the that 1 year period?

Can't wait to start using the phone--the dual SIM was what sold me.

Thanks
SL

1. Same delivery
2. Should work on another device, just use afrihost APN
3. You can put any sims in that you want (haven't tried 2 voice cards at the same time yet, you select what you want eg Messaging from a specific sim)
4. No roll over on data, 1 gig per month

uploadfromtaptalk1406496343312.jpgI know it hasn't been used but its still impressive. My S2 dies in a day, used or standby makes no difference

It will have to come from China. I'm working on reducing the minimum batch size, since I only have one phone :D

After the initial teething trouble and unhappiness - is everyone happy with the Zest T1?

It seems there is less comments on this thread and the FB page?

Lol, happy... Yeah... :erm:

My assumption based on my own observations:
Both the Afrihost representatives as well as those from Zest have decided to completely ignore this thread, even though they have responded here in the past. On their Facebook page, Zest will remove any comment they deem 'not positive' even if said comment is a question.

I find this practice pathetic.

They are unwilling to answer our queries and hide behind their excuse of "we are a start-up company" as though that is supposed to mean something. They have a whiney CEO who instead of facing his challenges head on will rather rant about it, basically telling everyone to back off, or something- he wrote a letter somewhere about it- think it's still somewhere on their facebook wall if you want to read it.

Afrihost especially, have lost a lot of the good faith they had, just because they choose to keep silent, were in the past they were open and willing to help (this is my opinion- since they have stopped responding in this thread, I have lost a lot of the respect I once had and I have the feeling I am not alone in this). It might not be their hardware, but you know what they say: silence is an answer too.

Once they start giving me something to be positive about, I might just start being positive.

Second that, the phone is definitely allot better after the re-partition though. The customer service leaves allot to be desired, the phone is in no way the first south African smart phone as they claim, its just a stock standard Chinese phone packaged for a SA company with their slightly modified rom. If the phone had not come with the data I think there would be an even more negative response.

On a slightly unrelated note, Afrihost is really going a bit far with their marketing strategy. I cant see how they are not making money from all this mobile data they are selling, and sending emails saying don't feel bad and then listing all the reasons one should is pretty lame.
