3G/HSPA/LTE Routers

I can confirm that my...

- Netgear MBRN3000 (firmware V1.0.0.43_2.0.11WW)
- Cell C Huawei E1820 (frimware 11.831.03.00.00)

...is a 100% perfect combo, using them for well over a month now. It just works, plus has neat features like setting up multiple different AP's (with different names and encryption schemes) and a traffic meter.
 
As I mentioned earlier in this thread I have had the same I have overcome this by disconnecting the Wifi connection to the computer then reconnecting. I'n my opinion its not a Cell C thing but a communication with the router and the computers. Please let me know if you overcome this problem.

I've been using the TP-Link MR3420 for a week now, and am generally very impressed.

How about introducing some traffic stats on the 3G link? Data sent&received per day/since last reset... While not foolproof, it would give one an indication of data usage, and you could check the stick periodically to confirm. (It wouldn't be the traffic reported by the modem, as with MDMA, I imagine, but rather the data sent/received by the router over that link.

Of course, if we could check usage on the CellC site, and it is accurate, the point would be moot.

There are already traffic stats on the tp link routers, just needs to persist between connections/reboots and be for a month. Also more readable (ie not shown in bytes)

Picked up my TP-Link UC100 USB cradle on Friday.

My black Cell C speedstick works much cooler compared to having it connected directly to my laptop or the TL-MR3420.

Picked up my TP-Link UC100 USB cradle this morning. Thanks kernel. Brought a work colleague with me who bought two Tl-MR3220s, so the marketing is working.

My TL-MR3220 works well with my Cell C 1820 stick. Bye bye ADSL!

Great, had a couple of MYBB members come and get their UC100 and had some positive feedback from them and how it works so looks to be a good combo. We'll monitor sales and if it proves worthwhile we might continue the combo to MYBB members. there still seems to be some confusion in terms of pricing so to confirm amounts:

MR3420-UC100, R425 ex, R485.50 incl
MR3220-UC100, R339 ex, R386.46 incl

Quoting those model numbers along with your MYBB username will qualify you for the pricing, can phone the order in or order through the website but then just make sure to quote the above. I'm also getting quite a few PM's with product specific questions etc... I dont mind at all only problem is I'm out of the office a lot and sometimes take a while to reply, best it to send the query to [email protected] and one of our sales guys will handle the query.

Tthanks again for the on-going support, We'll continue to do MYBB specific marketing so look out for some great deals.
 
Huawei B970b Router or TP-Link MR3420 Router?

I need a router with external antenna connection to use with one of the Cell C data promotion sims. The house I stay in is 170 years old and has incredibly thick walls, so I need to use an external antenna to boost the signal.

I have narrowed it down to two options:

Huawei (Vodafone) B970b Router:
Cost will be around R1500 for Router, R1999 for 60Gig Cell C Sim, R455 for a High gain antenna
Total Cost R3954

TP-Link MR3420 Router:
R485 for Router, R2999 for 60Gig Cell C Sim + Huawei E1820 modem, R455 for a High gain antenna R149 Universal 3G coupler to connect modem to antenna.
Total Cost R4088

Can anyone comment on which of the above mentioned options will give me the most stable connection. Will I loose allot of signal strength using the 3G coupler instead of a direct connection to the antenna?

I would go for the TP-Link; it has wireless N, you can unplug your 3G modem and take it with you if you need mobility, and you can upgrade your 3G modem in future.

You'll lose abut 6dBm, but you should gain a lot more than that with an external antenna.

BTW, this router has full SMS support, but no USSD.
 
Picked up a TP-LINK MR3220 yesterday, works great with 8ta data on a Huawei E173 and the special is icing on the cake!
 
Ordered another TP-Link router yesterday from Uniterm Direct for delivery. Just received the package and the USB cradle. All in all for R480 odd :)

Yes, although it's not 3G traffic only? Includes Wireless and LAN I think...
 
Has anyone had a chance to compare the TP link MR3420 to cell C's inhouse Huawei D105, or perhaps to the AirLive 3G?

I'm very much a novice, but not sure which of the three is the overall winner in terms of stability & speed. Also does anyone know if the D105 is able to provide any form for security, or is the wifi it provides free for neighbours to climb on?

I am busy playing with the D105. It has all the standard Wifi security available and the web interface is pretty clean. I have yet to test it properly but I suspect due to the small form factor the wifi range is not going to be very good. So if you want to cover a large area or have thick walls you may want to look at the TP-Link.

If you want a no-brainer answer take the TP-Link. There are plenty of guys on the forum with one, so they can help you if you get stuck. Plus the fantastic deal from Uniterm Direct makes it hard to resist.
 
I tried an unlocked T-Mobile E583C.

Doesn't work, T-Mobile have disabled UMTS 900MHz in their firmware :(

Pity, it is a nice toy, an updated version of the Huawei E585.

It does work with Vodacom :)

I am looking for new firmware, the E583C does work in Oz and Hong Kong on UMTS900MHz - no luck so far, though :(

I'm interested in getting either the MR3420 or MR3220, but I would just like to know if anyone has connected their PS3 to either of these routers and if they were able to get PSN connected.

Hi I got the MR3420 and Cell C 5Gb yesterday.
It took me 20min to setup my whole house(duplex), with wireless at the top floor of the house. My Ps3 connects to it on wireless signal strength 41%. even streaming from my PC movies it has no freezing evry 10sec to load.
My 3g displays 74% on the MR3420 admin Display.
I played till 02h00 this morning Need for speed Hot.. and COD with no problems. It cinects NAT2. and had not lag problems.
 
Does anyone know how to see what the usage is of 3g is.. instead of plugging the Sim in a phone and dial *147# to get the available balance.
I got the MR3420 and Cell C 5Gb Black one.
Doesn't cell c have it on their website? like Vodacom that you see available amount?
