The modem however gets quite hot when plugged in on the router.
Get yourself a TP-Link USB Cradle, keeps the modem away from the router and keeps it much cooler compared to connecting it directly to the router.

Just to add to the list Vodafone R201 working with cellc.

So far I'm still fairly happy with TP-Link MR3220. The modem however gets quite hot when plugged in on the router. Wish the router had a power switch.
Possible yes. You can enable internet connection sharing on your pc connected to cell c. Then enable the wireless etc on the router. Disable DHCP on the router and give it an ip address in the range that internet connection sharing allocates. Then plug in the pc to a LAN port on the router. Pain in the arse and your pc needs to be running. Get an mr3220 for R400, plug in the cell c and you're almost done.
I know this should likely go to the Vodacom forum, but I tried and nobody answered.
My Cell-C 5 gig unfortunately ran out, and I happened to have a Vodacom sim with a few hundred gigs. I tried to use it on an E220 modem plugged into the MR 3220 without any succes. It detects the modem but just doent connect. Any suggestions?
Hay, thank you for the help. Did exactly what you said and it worked. Its nice, now I connect my cellc stick where it has best reception (permanently on the light blue, or whatever that colour is) and the rest of my house has a pretty good speed. Thanks again for the help
@ Neetz...Aha!!! I knew it. Most routers have a 200mW radio. A 1 W radio is way above average. I got the TP-Link for Internet access but I wanna get the Airlive for a little community network I wanna get going.
Those kind of networks are popping up all over the UK at the moment. Gotta get me some of that!!
Thanks a million. Now I can get it confidently.
hey dude...did you recieve your Air3G modem? still waiting for you to post your experiences.....![]()
I've been using the TP-Link MR3420 for about 3 weeks now. Twice in the last week the wireless died, i.e. the access point was no longer visible, could not connect. Had to power cycle it.
The router is left on permanently, it sits flat (horizontally) on the top shelf of an empty cupboard and gets fairly warm... Anyone else had a problem like this?
So my TPLink 3220 and CellC white sick combo is not working for me. Various reasons which I'm not gonna bore you with. Can somebody recommend a router that he/she has been using for MORE than a month that has been trouble free since day one and can keep a connection active for 24 hours a day? Various models are mentioned in this thread but I really need first hand review from somebody. Thanks
A friend of mine has the 3220 and the black stick. Also needs constant rebooting. I have the 3420 and the black stick. The router (and my friend's) regularly "loses" the modem in that it's status shows the modem is "unplugged". Then it goes into "identifying" the modem and only then tries to reconnect. Pop the stick directly into my pc, no problems.
What is really really weird about the above is that the problems with the router losing the modem ONLY occurs with a Cell C sim in the stick. With an MTN sim in the stick and plugged into the router it stayed connected for 40 hours before I "gave up".
So yes, I'm in the market for a router that doesn't "lose" the modem and doesn't need rebooting like Goobie states. Maybe I'll try the Netgear.
I've been using a Netgear MBRN3000 for almost 2 months now and have had no problems whatsoeverThen again, your connection will only be stable if your coverage and Cell C tower in your area are stable. Guess I'm lucky there too
