8ta versus Telkom Mobi: Pricing comparison

It is indeed: http://www.8ta.com/plans/postpaid-data.html - Out of bundle data rates are R0.30 per MB

You may be thinking about prepaid prices: R1.00 per MB (compared with R2.00 from VC, MTN and Cell C)

Ah, missed that. Thanks.

Still, on the whole, the prices are extremely unimpressive. Not the kind of ammo you need when trying to build up market share. At a stretch one might consider switching to 8ta for voice services, but certainly not for data.

... Telkom does not want to have competition between their internal brands.
This is to be expected, since 8ta is "powered by Telkom". They ought to learn from the late dr Anton Rupert's success - he did exactly the opposite.

8ta has recently launched their first data offerings, and interestingly enough Telkom may show them up in terms of pricing

From the table above it is clear that 8ta’s postpaid pricing is in line with Telkom’s Do 3G on the move prices, with the added advantage of getting a modem free of charge on a 24 month contract.

Someone please explain to me how exactly is Telkom "show(ing) them [8ta] up". As far as I can see, the first paragraph of this article is pretty much in direct contradiction with the rest of it.

i guess if you desperate this will have to do

Yes, this is a viable alternative for people who can't get ADSL in their area--one of the ways Telkom decides to screw with you I guess.

Do 3G on the move is only available to Fixed Line Look Alike(FLLA) customers. So you will have to pay and additional R133.30 line rental to telkom. The article failed to mention this.

My feeling is Do 3G was a way to test the telkom mobile network and get ride of cheap dongles they had bought in bulk.

Not really competative...

Do 3G on the move is only available to Fixed Line Look Alike(FLLA) customers. So you will have to pay and additional R133.30 line rental to telkom. The article failed to mention this.

Unless something has changed in the last 4 months, that is not true. I am user of the FLLA data only line and I can assure you I do not pay the additional R133.30. Only for the data. Yes I am on contract (M2M) thus I would know.
