I just downloaded the latest MIUI and it seems like the auto brightness (from here on just AB) is working (it wasn't working with 2.7.27). What I would like to ask is, does anyone know whether siyah kernel supports AB with the new version 4.1.1? I've been using stock for about 3 weeks now because I couldn't find a way of getting AB working on cyanogen or miui but maybe things have changed/been fixed?

And if AB doesn't work with siyah yet will installing it mess it up if it currently is working with MIUI?

Sorry I know these questions are probably stupid but I did struggle with the AB so far on the custom roms.

Why did you go back to MIUI if it was nice and smooth? :p

BTW which version MIUI are you running?

The lastest one. Isn't 2.8 something.

I personally don't like the way RR looks. It seems too untidy with the widgets being the end, also I had like
home pages that I couldn't change unless I launched it Apex. Just I used MIUI before it and it was perfect, except for the random kernel upload modes because of the Siyah Kernel but that was with 2.7. Never had that issue with 2.8.

Is it worth running a JB RR ROM on S2? I'm currently running 2.5.1 and quite happy, but if there are performance improvements on one of the later ICS ROMS or a JB ROM, then I'd like to upgrade...

+1
Has anyone else run both RR ICS and JB? What do you prefer as a daily driver?

Just use Lux Auto Brightness. Much better than stock AB.

Oh. My. Gosh.

I was just trolling xda and found this article about screen protectors where the guys was well...trolling.

To be honest I was fully aware that the stoopid screen protector I was using (body glove or something) was effecting the display quality-it somehow makes the screen much more pixellated - but the things are so dan expensive and I like preserving my phone... So anyway, I stripped my moer along with the article's author and plucked my screen protector off.

Oh. Wow. It's glorious.

Stoopid screen protectors...

See below

That depends what screen protector you're using. The matte and the cheap screen protectors are not shiny and look dull, but if you get a good quality screen protector, you won't even notice the difference. Everyone SHOULD have a good quality screen protector because it protects the phone from scratches.

I used the anti glare ones and found it took away from this awesome screen. So I got a clear screen protector and it works great

I tried rr 2.6.1?? and it was very nice and buttery smooth. But I cant really comment much on it as I only had it on for 2 days. I never had time to let the bettery settle but got 3h screen time with heavy use. mot bad at all.

I am running rr3.0.5 now and love it. I have had the phone freeze twice in two weeks and just held home button to get it back. So its not perfectly stable yet, but more than stable enough for a daily. I dit have some severe battery drain though so I switched to the dorimanx kernel(easy flash and also supports dual boot) and I am impressed now! It is just as smooth but battery life is now MUCH better! Phone was only charged to 80% and I have 3:15 hours of screen on and 20% left. Im sure that I can get 4hours out of a full charge.

Also I flashed the kernel last night so it still has to settle. And I am running stock kernel settings with no UV or UC.

I'm on 3.0.4 with Siyah kernel, and my phone lasts a day on average - 8 hours if I abuse it.

Just for clarification, I am talking about the ammount of time that the screen was on. I got about 16hours total battery time with just less than 4hours with the screen on(surfing/games/tweaking) today. As a heavy user I think its better to compare "screen on" times than total life. If you are a light user that the opposite should be true.

Screen on is not the be all end all of battery life. Wi-fi, 3G, talk time and GPS play big roles too. So when posting battery performance figures it is goox to mention these. I am sure I can manipulate screen on time to be in excess of 10 hrs. So total time on + screen on and some other indicators gives a better indication.

Sure, I agree. The more info the better!

It was with 3G on all the time and Wifi off mostly, I tethered my 3G for like 10min just to check it out. Screen was set to 40%(not auto), BT off.

Siyah 4.1.2 released

I just read the changelog. Not enough of an update for me to change yet. Lol, esp since my kernel is barely a day old!

I dod read that the next Dorimanx kernel(its based on siyah) is a major update and designed to support JB perfectly. Well just have to see...
