South Africa's most popular Speedtest.net ISPs revealed

Interesting. I can certainly understand why Mweb and IS is top 2 on the list with all the problems we've been having with Mweb, then comparing with our free Afrihost (IS) accounts to test :)

Mweb guys testing to see why the torrents are going so slow :D

It would be better if there was some way to see which ISP's had the best speeds.

The Mweb and IS people were checking to see if it was only their download speeds that were kak.

How about the average speeds per ISP? That would give everyone a better indication.

Does that mean BCS Group have the least amount of problems? :)

Cell C 3rd, interesting ...

40 000 tests with a customer base not much bigger than twice that size. That's a ratio of between 2:1 to 3:1 compared to around 10:1 or 15:1 for the other guys or even Vodacom's 100:1 (2million users doing 20thousand tests).

So either every second Cell C users is doing a test (highly unlikely) or a few users are doing a large number of tests. Interesting indeed....

Funny considering we only speedtest when something is wrong :P

Could also by an indication of the type of users the different telcos carry. I would guess Vodacom and MTN has mostly three types of subcribers:
1. Business people, don't think/care/know of Speedtest
2. Average user going after the brand name they trust after many years of service, not tech-savvy
3. The poor on the prepaid deals

CellC and MWEB I believe has a large influx off tech savvy and young people willing to take a chance, and the tech savvy group knows about speed test.

Then the comments about running SpeedTest if you have problems is also valid... from personal experience and that of my friends. Even call centres request a SpeedTest when you have a throughput problem.

Won't be surprising if Cell C users are running 50 times more speed tests than Vodacom users because of all their network problems. There seems to be 50 times more complaints about the Cell C network in the Cell C section than in the MTN or Vodacom sections but it still seems high. I think r00igev@@r might be onto something.

Cape Town also shows for me, use e3online. Always just thought that showed where my ISP was hosted
