To all of those who have this, applied for the contract please post your speedtest results and other several diagnostics here...

In case anyone missed it - this service from Telkom is LTE (150Mbps?) which was announced 4th of June 2015.

Uncapped with a 50GB FUP.

Some snippets:

The introductory offer starts at R599 for the first 50 customers, R699 for the second 50 and R799 for the final 50 available packages at each base station

It will impose the following restrictions on what it called “bandwidth-intensive protocols or applications”.

50GB threshold, with affected protocols throttled to 128kbps thereafter.
Throttling due to cap depletion will occur during peak network periods, from 6pm to 12am.
Subscribers may not provide network services from their account (for example, you may not use your account to operate as an FTP server)

Existing Telkom customers in the select areas will have the opportunity to transition to the new packages depending on availability at each base station

How much data did you guys used and "bandwidth-intensive protocols or applications”. what consider bandwidth intensive protocols and application besides torrents?
 
Who has hit their 50GB cap? And after that, is HTTP still full speed? Which ports/applications if any are throttled?
 
I've been waiting since Friday for my Sim card to activate. No one at Telkom mobile can assist and no one at Selldirect (company doing the activation) is answering their phones. Very unpleasant experience so far.

I'll provide some speed tests once I'm up and running.

cautiously optimistic for this one when (if?) its finally rolled out in cape town.
 
I'm quite surprised on how few people went for this.

Yes, I suppose so. My "4MB" ADSL is so bad that I'm practically capped anyway. I'm willing to try this as I don't have many other choices.
 
Very low uptake on this deal for some reason. 8-or-so hours left for the R600 deal and and average of 37/50 deals left per area.

HTTP isn't throttled albeit after 50GB, koeksGHT declared in another thread. Perhaps his tower load?
 
Koeks i need your help do you know what is the company called that comes to install the antenna?

Also waiting for the Antennae install guys to contact me. It took a week for the SIM to activate although it only currently see's 3G. Ironically Telkom called on Friday to tell me to expect the install guys to call. Why not just get the install guys to phone direct to make an appointment.

So all in all so far almost 2 weeks and still not operational
