Good morning

I just have a query. Ever since CellC initiated the R5 Whatsapp data bundle we've been using it.

However.... I noticed that for some reason Whatsapp uses your normal data bundle until it expires THEN it uses up your loaded airtime value (when loading it using a voucher, meaning that I am unable to purchase any new data bundle as I don't have any more money left on my account) and only then will it start making use of the data bundle.

My wife also have the same issue.

Is this normal usage? I was under the impression that Whatsapp will use data from the allocated data bundle and not from your precious meager airtime/data bundle... :(

Can any CellC rep comment?

Thanks

If you have loaded a WhatsApp Bundle, all WhatsApp usage will be billed to the WhatsApp Bundle. If you have free data and/or inclusive data available, these will be depleted for other internet usage.

It's meant to use the Whatsapp bundle first. Started using it last month and haven't really been watching mine.

Hi The_Librarian

The Whatsapp bundle must deplete when using Whatsapp.

Please PM us the number in question and we will look into the matter.

Is whatsapp not for free on cellC?

Hi Robertvv

Thank you for posting to us.

WhatsApp is not free, as the promotion ended on 31.08.2015.

We have now introduced WhatsApp bundles, of which R5 gives you 30 days of unlimited WhatsApp.

Regards
Cell C | BM

CellC are working on a resolution.
They could have started a thread / mybb news item stating that there's an issue, asking users to check their data and report it. Anyway. Hopefully resolved soon, tho I might have annoyed cellc rep with the 'fix your ****' comment...which was directed at cellc the company, not cellc the forum rep. Eish.

Just tested now. Data balsce before downloading whatsapp video ....`132mb. Downloaded 2mb video. Balance now 130mb. I have a R5 recurring whatsapp bundle.

This is robbery! Who is going to check this daily.

Seems like everyone testing this has the same issue. They better pause the service and fix it....and then issue an apology.

Just call technical at the call centre. Gave me a temp fix. They claim they will be refunding the data ...haha.......going to test again.

It is free, but there is a gremlin with some users. CellC are working on a resolution.

Apologies for my incorrect statement. It is not free, but you do get a R5 whatsapp bundle, which is quite a bargain IMO

I do apologize for any inconvenience caused.

A snippet of cellc's response:
Code containing 100 proves that one was not charged, codes having 200 show that one was charged. Overall WhatsApp did not charge you....
.....however since you used up approximately 300MB of data this month. Cell C will be passing gratitude gesture data of 100MB, thank you for choosing Cell C, you are appreciated.

They include an xls file with some data that looks like this:
2.jpg

I am unable to find anything above 500KB in that datasheet which reflects my 8mb video download from yesterday, so it's tricky using that spreadsheet to validate anything. In addition, the pictures I posted yesterday were quite conclusive that my whatsapp data coincided with my data being used. So, in the interest of being fair I'll try again. Please note that I have no other apps or services with access to data as I do this.

Check data balance 103.10MB:

Download whatsapp video 842KB:

Check data balance 102.61MB:

There is still a discrepancy there. It happens consistently that received messages use my regular data bundle instead of the whatsapp bundle.

I'm posting this here because they seem to have a glitch in their system and don't grasp the fact that there's a problem. I'm reproducing this consistently. For them to tell me nothing is wrong is just not helping me or anyone else here. I'm not sure how else to escalate this matter. And please cellc - engage in a dialogue with me, I don't need you to close the book with messages like this:

Cell C will be passing gratitude gesture data of 100MB, thank you for choosing Cell C, you are appreciated.
Because right now nothing has been resolved.

Yep;

Wonder how much money cellc is making by charging us for the R5 bundle and yet taking off the data off your normal bundle. How many users really do check these things. I was wondering why my data was getting finished!!!! This is daylight robbery!

I'd be surprised if it's working properly for anyone tbh. Right now it seems everyone who's posted here is experiencing the same issue. I'm not really bothered about the money, I would just like them to fix it and instead of telling me I'm appreciated, to get in touch and ask me to test it again...to have a discussion & work out what's wrong.
