how does one test their line speed... i ahve a 4mb line...but need to test it

On average over the past 6 months, my adsl has been down 10 days out of every 30. I have called them. I have logged calls via Telkom website. I have been to the Telkom shop close to us. My problem still exist.

What else can I do? Where can I log a complaint at Telkom?

Did'nt work. They say they will transfer me to supervisor and then just cut me off.

Call EBSC ask them for an LTS test . they will give all the info that you need , also ask for a port reset also helpd with upstream and downstream , Please note if you are 1km away from pilliar post ,dslam, Umc , line speed is not guaranteed at what you have ,due to metallic noise on crossing lines

Cheers

ADSL Degradation

Until a few months ago, I used to have reasonable D/L speeds of between 3 and 3.7 Mbps on a Telkom line to my home (Telkom Closer 5 package).

This has slowly degraded to ± 1.1 Mbps. I have contacted Telkom who now say we are at the "edge" of the decent ADSL in our area and cannot expect more and in any event we are between 1024 Mbps and 4096 Mbps which is all they have to supply.

As we used to get much better speeds (Speedtest results), why the gradual degradation? No H/W has changed other than swapping routers to retest the line.

you may very well be at the "edge of the network" but there also maybe more adsl users now in your area. unfortunately ADSL is a shared service that could be your problem also viruses could have crept in have a look-see at that department also

I went from 4meg to 640kb, last week, need to get that sorted otherwise I'm not paying for 4meg might aswell down grade to 512.

 Which ADSL Router/Modem would you guys/gals recommend if I have the option to purchase one myself instead of getting it via supplier?

billion 7300RA / billion 7300G-RA :)

Thanks, now where will I find these? What shops will sell these at decent pricess?

Does anyone here now of a reliable line-speed monitoring software that also keeps tabs on how much bandwidth has been used?

The F**kers did it to me as well. That stopped when I started taking names.
