no, i'm just pointing a few things out, and you guys keep arguing with me
obviously if the 16:9 screen is smaller than the 16:10 screen it's gonna count for the 16:10
but if we compare apples with apples, the 16:9 is better for games and movies - only benefit of a 16:10 is 120 pixels of real estate.
But it's never apples with apples as both 16:10 and 16:9 are not available on the same size monitors

Exactly, but this obviously does not apply in this 'debate'. Even if a 16:9 wins out by a few mm I would still opt for the 16x10

and if you look at postmanpot's image - remember 1 thing: although the 16:10 screen is taller, the black bars does not only take away the extra space, it takes away MORE, because the movie has to maintain a 16:9 ratio
so the 16:9 displays a wider AND taller image
anyway, i like 16:10, because it has a bigger res for windows - just stating that for movies it's a smaller image, that is all i'm doing.

Your whole "argument" relies on the screens being the SAME SIZE, which...wait for it... they are NOT
They don't frigging make 22" 16:10 monitors, the 16:10 monitors are usually a bit bigger than the 22" 16:9's, even if it's by 0.5".
You are trying to compare things that don't exist in this universe.

You are comparing something theoretical which does not EXIST, we are trying to explain to you that from what you can actually buy (at a store) that comparing screens which are 16:10(24") and 16:9(23") have a similar-ish width but the 16:10 screen has a increased height

therefor an extra 230 400 pixles (because you adding an extra 120 onto the y-value, but the x-values are the same, so you have to work out the new area)

The thread was about the two different resolutions which are pretty much only found on screens of slightly different sizes, so the comparison has to be made between screens which differ in size.
Now if the op wanted to choose between two screen both with the same physical dimensions with the two different apect ratios then I would agree with Keeper that the 16:9 would indeed provide a wider image in those circumstances.

yes because the laws of maths change when a "PC monitor" is used instead of a "TV monitor"
Because we are discussing PC screen related resolutions with what is AVAILABLE to us...capishe...? So If the op had to go buy a PC screen tomorrow, what would you recommend...?
You are comparing two sizes where one does not exist for a 16:10
Compare a 23" 16:9 (Samsung 2333SW or P2350) to a 23.6" (Samsung 2494HS, smallest 16:10 1920x1200 I can think of) and you will see there is nothing to write home about.
