Im looking to upgrade my line, im currently on a 384kbps line.
Is the extra upgrade to 1MB worth the money? Will i see a noticeable difference, or should i splash the cash and get a 4MB line?

Depends on what you want to do on the line. I have 1MB at home and a 5GB capped account with IS (am considering changing though to Afrihost).
I don't download lots, and find the speed is perfect for my family needs and remote work.

If you do want to download lots then 4MB will be better probably with an uncapped account, although it will cost more.

Another option is to consider 8ta or Cell-C if you are considering a capped account as it is better value for money (just need to check coverage and test signal to see if it is worthwhile).

on 1Mb, I can finally stream live TV!!! What a pleasure.

Have been watching a whole bunch of sport and surfing online. Billabong Pro's, Mr Price Pro...Good times!

4Mb is just too expensive at the moment to warrant, but 1Mb is such a huge difference from my 384k. If I had to get 4Mb though, i doubt I'd be able to go back to anything slower.

I hate my 1mb. Its so flippen slow. Can't wait for my free trial to be over so i can gooi 10mb :)

In my experience 384k to 1M is a huge jump in terms of usability, 1Mb to 4Mb not so much. Downloads on 4Mb are faster and youtube buffers less but thats about it. Try 1Mb and if you find it slow then consider the 4Mb option.

just remember if your lucky you get a 10mb line thats 10 times the speed of the 1mb line :P

Well, it depends how much you're prepared to spend on your cap.

Basically anything less than 50GB on a 4mb line is a complete waste. In my opinion.

Recently upped from 384 to 1Mb. Huge difference and worth it. Going up to 4Mb I suspect the "up to" effect will come into play and start playing havoc with the money-value equation.

jump from 384k to 4meg. will never ever go back down again. won't be able to get used to it.with a Reafrica 130GB you cannot go wrong.
once you go 4meg you will never go back.so anyone moving up its a warning.

Great advice.

And what if his line cannot handle 4Mbps and he only gets the "guaranteed" 1Mbps? Then he's wasted his money, no, as he will be paying for a 4Mbps service?

It's simple, go 1 meg and see if you are happy. If not then move to 4 meg.

Yeah, riiiight!! Not.

MWEB uncapped prices (without line rental):
1024 = R299
4096 = R539

MWEB uncapped prices (with line rental):
1024 = R588
4096 = R899

I was actually refering to to the erratic performance...

I went from 384 to 4mb.I tested 1mb uncapped on my 4mb line for a month and hated it.So once you at the top going down is not a option
