1Mbps uncapped ADSL pricing: will ISPs compete with MWEB?

I still can't handle the massive pictures of telecoms execs in the middle of articles. Not entirely sure what the purpose of these are, but they could at least be a little less imposing.

The one good thing about it is that i finally saw what the CEO of my ISP, Openweb looks like, nogal dressed in white like our savior from all the bad Interwebz providers.:p

At least now when i receive or send a mail i have seen the persons face.

I don't think you can hybridise your accounts like that. Either it's ADSL line with Telkom, or with your ISP supplying your internet. I don't think you can have your line with one ISP, and get your internet gigs from another. Not sure though.

I'm sure you can.

There should only be 1mbps, 4mbps and 10mbps line speeds. Get rid of 384!!!

I would sign up, Mweb has been a market leader for the last 2 years and 6 months is not a long period of time.

I just upgraded to the 1Mbps account. When do these new speeds actually take affect? At the moment it's still running at 384Kbps. Is it from 1 June?

You sure your Telkom line is upgraded too? It could be from 1 June if that's what you signed up for, but you usually pay pro-rata for the last few days of the month.

If your line is with Mweb.it will take a while for your line to be upgraded.

Our line rental is at Telkom. My dad use to work at Telkom so we don't have to pay for line rental. Do I have to ask Telkom to up my line to 1Mbps seperately? Or will MWeb take care of that for me?

P.S I know they have mentioned difficulty upgrading in certain areas due to some constraints, our line is able to test up to 4mb speeds so there shouldn't be a problem

P.P.S On my PC on speedtest.net we don't get higher than a 384 line, but from my brothers iPhone we got 1M which was really odd.

You can most defenitely.

Here's my breakdown :

Phone line = Telkom
ADSL line = Axxess
ISP (Data) = Openweb

You can have any combination of the three, some ISP's like Mweb just offer bundle deals (ADSL line + ISP (Data) together) for a small discount.

If you look at Axxess, you will see 1mb is now R249 a month which is really not bad.

Okay so a few days before this announcement I phone mweb and tell them to take me to the 1 meg pipe , this was on the 21 of may. They make this announcement on the 25 of may, and guess what , i get charge the R369 for this month, and not the R299.... Really sad . Not sure what to do about it. Any ideas ?

I agree. 384k should be made illegal. I think the entry level speed should be 1mbps.

Afrihost, when are going to offer a free upgrade from 512k to 1mbps?
