Sorry only saw bold part now - if you are aimed perfectly at tower, and you rotate 180deg, I reckon you're perfectly aimed again? From what I can see the antenna doesn't have a back and front, only a top and bottom? i.e. It is shaped like a triangle flag, and I guess it doesn't matter which side o flag faces the tower? These are guesses...

Ah ok, the point of the triangle should face the tower, not the sides of the "flag".
 
*blush* thanks, I get the point. Will play around with it and see what improvement I can get. What is the highest % you guys have seen in the TP-link status, or highest dbi? Anyone know how often the TP-link measures and updates signal strength?

For some antenna types yes, but in general not for the types of antennas sold off the shelf for 3G/GSM.

The "Front" or "back" of the antenna is defined by its elements. Assuming you have a Yagi or LPDA then some elements are of the "director" type (slightly shorter) and some the "reflector" (slightly longer) type. Director types face tower first and reflector types tower last.

The updates are at least on par with the automatic web interface's update, so a few seconds. But if there are multiple towers in your area you need to give the modem time to update or "jump" to the better tower. So I'd turn say 20 degrees at a time and wait 1 minute before turning again.

I bought a TP-Link in Cape Town the day before yesterday. Hooked my Cell C E1820 into it, and it works like an absolute charm. I also have a Dovado 3G USB wireless router which works well. I now have to decide which of the two I will instal in my girlfriends apartment, and which to keep at my house.

I think the TP-Link is excellent value for money - I paid R 399.00 excl VAT.
The Dovado I bought about a year ago, and cost around R 1299.00 (It was on special at the time - the going rate was R 1999.00)

I've just bought myself the TP-Link MR3420 and I've coupled it with the Black Cell C dongle. Had a slight issue with the network username and password where it would automatically fill in the wrong information but a simple firmware upgrade fixed that.

The router works perfectly now and I am currently enjoying a home wireless 4G network with speeds close on 12megs a second and 5GB of bandwidth every month :)

12megs a second? What sort of signal strength do u have?
 
I have the Billion BiPAC 6200NXL router and I must say that I get a loss of around 2mb/s using this router and wireless N. To my mind this shouldn't be the case. Is anybody else experiencing this problem?

I am also having huge problems trying to get the Samba server and FTP server working. I plug in the external HDD and the router can't find the directories to share.

In general I feel disappointed with this router - it looked very promising but in reality it fails to deliver on what it says on the tin. If it just passed through the speeds I expected and delivered a true Wireless-N signal then I'd be happy but it can't seem to do either of this. Considering it is R1000+ it is a poor show.

I am now thinking of getting the TP-Link as it seems as though there is little to no degradation in the speeds attained. Can anyone confirm this?
 
hi all,

recently i bought the 60gb pre-paid deal only to find out that i got the zte modem and not the e1820. I managed to get it exchanged for the correct one, purpose being that I can use it in my Netgear MBR624GU 3G router.

got home last night and first did the dashboard install on my notebook to make sure the device is working and that I have signal - i also needed to do this so that i can check what number it should dial, for config in the router. so after installing everything is working... i was a bit dissapointed with the speedtest.net results, in the region of 1.5 down and 1.1 up (kempton park area)

any case... i plugged the modem in to my router, and after it booted up I started the setup wizard again - this time round (before I had vodacom) i chose cell c as operator and the number to dial was set to *99#, same as what the dial up connection says. the device connects to the internet, but then i get the following behavior (only on router) - It is as if it cannot decide on which network (HSPA+ or WCDMA) it want to be on, the light changes to blue & light blue all the time and each time it changes the internet connection gets interrupted.

When I use the speed stick plugged in to the notebook only, I do not get this behavior.

I came accross this topic, and I did download and install both the unofficial dashboard and firmware and afterwards selected the netword type as WCDMA only. I was under the impression the modem would 'remember' this setting...

Is there something I am doing wrong? I would like to use the modem in the router as I have multiple devices accessing the net. How can I get the router to stay on "one frequency" only, and have uninterrupted connectivity?

Does anyone else have the Netgear MBR624GU with e1820 set up? How does your setup look like?

We have it at work. Have no issues.

If I remember correctly it's setup to connect automatically and idle time is 0. I used MDMA to set the modem to 3G only. When we tested there was no difference between pc and router.

The modem will go to WCDMA when there is no traffic flowing. Don't worry about it - it's only the modulation technique. The frequency is the same.
To compare speeds between the router and modem alone on pc, it's best to test with a ethernet connection incase there's an issue with the wireless.

Cell C MF668 & MBRN3000

A MF668 Cell C modem has just been delivered to me after I have been told that a Huawei E1820 will be delivered.

I do know that the Netgear MBRN3000 router and the Huawei E1820 are compatible with each other. I did check when I purchased the router.

Does anyone know whether the MBRN3000 and these MF668 modems are compatible with each other. I need to know before I break the seal of the package.

Netgear's support has ben found wanting, but send a complaint to them anyway. They're losing business because of their refusal to add support for the ZTE's. TP-link's support has been very good.
 
cell c 3G modem

Hi guys i have searched all the forums thus im posting. I just brought a cell c speed stick the black fast one and yesterday i got a new modem from incredible connection and i asked if it would work and i was told yes definitely!

Well guess what its not, it says the usb device is not supported so please tell me what to do! i have a netgear MBRN3000 and need it to work please help?
 
Download the new drivers from the netgear website. Should fix your problem. Just google netgear 3g router download>

I bought a Netgear model MBRN3000 with the added docking station from IC but the unit replies with an incompatible error on the white dongle from CellC. Did you have to do a firmware upgrade to get it working ? Works well on Voda.
