I have the MBRN 3000 and it disconnects constantly, but it's still more stable than having the modem plugged directly into the computer. Does anyone have settings for this router to prevent it from happening?

From your post its evident that the router is not the cause of the disconnects, or am I missing something?
Doesn't sounds like it's a problem with your router - could be Cell C in your area. Either you have a dodgy tower or your signal sux...

Yeah, I also think the problem is with the signal, but you know the story, when one phones the so-called support desk they tend to blame it on one's hardware. That is why I need to make sure.

I just bought a Billion 7402nx after 'donating' my Linksys to an armed robber. Got this for GB ports and to use my CellC 3G ZTE MF668 on lan and wireless. It works with my Vodacom 1750 via USB, but CellC reports 'not found' :-( Upgraded to latest firmware, still no Joy. Hope Nology or CellC will be able to resolve.

dont expect any help on the MBRN3000 from netgear - the last firmware revision was in 2009 sometime iirc and when i mailed the regarding a client with a MF668 they basically said... "eh? we'll maybe look at it."

or will it always be a case of getting 2 different routers e.g.

Get one 3G wireless router and one ADSL modem (will be much cheaper than a router).

I'm also in the same dilemma. After investigation, it seems none of the TP-Link Routers have BOTH USB and DSL routing capability (at least, that I could find).
Conclusion : purchase a MR3420 router, use the 300Mbps wireless and 3G connectivity on MR3420, and use my old DSL modem on the WAN port of the MR3420.
From http://www.tplink.com/en/products/prodetail.aspx?mid=0103030201&id=377 it seems that one can set the WAN port as default, with USB as failover.

I see there's a new Firmware update for the TP-Link MR3420 released on the 18th March 2011.

You can set 3G only, WAN only, 3G preferred or WAN preferred on the MR3420 and 3220.
