3G/HSPA/LTE Routers

I have found an issue with the TP Link MR3420. It won't allow a Cisco VPN connection. Tried all the settings VPN pass thru enabled etc. but no luck.
 
I have very slow download speeds in my area (apartment?) but I have resolved my ping issues using a wireless router, which really comes as a relief to me. I am now using a wireless adapter on my PC to connect to my Samsung Galaxy tab, which acts as the wireless router, and in that way I can place the tab wherever I like to receive better signal. It seems strange, but it looks as if I get "pockets" of better signal in my apartment, so it works in one spot but not in a spot 20cm to the right. Previously, when I had plugged my Cell C modem directly into my PC, I would often timeout, but I'm not getting this issue much anymore.
 
I bought the TP-LINK TL-MR3220 and have the Cell C ZTE MF668 USB modem. I have just got it to work now, but initially it didn't. The salesperson said to just upload the latest firmware....

The TP-Link website said that my modem was supported, for my current firmware but on first time insertion, the USB modem was not identified. I had a look on the website, and saw that there was a latest firmware download at http://www.tplink.com/en/support/downloadFiles.aspx?mid=01030302&version=v1&pmodel=TL-MR3220

Uploaded the firmware, but modem still not identified. I emailed TP-Link and they asked me to send this command via HyperTerminal (Windows XP) to the modem on it's com port (seen under control panel/modems) with this command:

AT+ZCDRUN=8

(this allows the modem to auto start)

I restarted the router, with modem inserted, and the modem was identified correctly and I can connect. I also manually entered the APN settings to connect to Cell C.

HyperTerminal settings:

You need to set your connection to echo commands locally with ASCII Setup - "Echo type characters locally" or you won't see what you type.
The new connection you make in HyperTerminal should be set to Bits per second: 115200
DataBits: 8
Parity: None
Stop Bits: 1
Flow Control: None

Put the modem into your computer (make sure no other connection starts. If so stop the Cell C connection manager). Connect with your new HyperTerminal connection and then type in the command AT+ZCDRUN=8 and press enter
Then disconnect the HyperTerminal Connection and close. But the modem in your router and wait a few seconds for it to be identified.

I hadn't tried the MF 190 modem bin file.

Cell C Router settings (PPP)(Mikrtotik)

Hi,

I am trying to set up my MikroTik RB-411U with the ZTE 190 speedstick from Cell C.

It says it is supported on the router website and after a firmware (ROS version) upgrade I was able to detect it and monitor the resources. Now I can't seem to find the settings for manually connecting to the network anywhere and it's not like the dongles come with an extensive manual.

Has anybody tried using a speedstick with Mikrotik and got it working?

or

Has some one set up the dongle on another device and have the parameters I need to manually enter?

pin - apn - username - password - remote address ?

There should be a place to enter the dialing code, which is *99#. No username or password required.
 
Mr3220 web interface crashes

I have another issue with the mr3220 whereby the routers web interface crashes and you can no longer access it on 192.168.1.1 anyone one else with this issue?
 
I was actually hoping to get a post that shows all the Cell C configuration settings - Seeing as there is no manual
So far all I have is:
dial command - *99#
APN - Internet
Pin - None
Username and Password - Not required

What are the other default settings such as remote address etc.?
 
I have "RT" that "FM" a couple times and I'm busy with the Mikrotik support guys to get this thing working but I feel like there is something amis from the Cell C settings pespective - I mean what else am I supposed to think after trying the basics?

Hopefully someone has set up a Cell C dongle on a RB411U

Perhaps the disabling of the CD portion of the ZTE modem also applies to the Mikrotik router. Check a few posts up ^.

Otherwise it might simply be that MT need to improve their support for ZTE. Ginggs has his E1820 working happily with MT.

PS. Perhaps next time give us a bit more information about what you have done rather than just asking for it as if you've done nothing out of your own. :)
 
i also got it this morning except i got the new cell c dongle, it is not compitible with the MBR624GU.
 
Cell c MF668 not compatible with the netgear routers

Gents.
I got the new cell c router this morning for use on my wireless 3G modem. plug and play.
The new firmware you need to load on the router does not support it.

I had done it previously with the E1820 and it worked.

Going to see if i can get the older modem again to see if it will work with the new update.

Lets hold thumbs cell c have an older modem and swop it out for me.
And lets hope the new firmware update will support it.

What I think might have been happening is a DOS attack from the Internet on my TP-Link mr3220 routers web server causing it to crash so I have now enabled all the advanced security settings such as DOS attack prevention and packet flood prevention in an effort to solve this problem.

DOS attack on Cell C? Highly unlikely seeing as they don't allow unsolicited inbound connections.
 
My Setup at home.

This is my setup at home. This was the best spot in the house where I could get 100 % signal (RSSI -51 dBm)

The Cell C tower is situated about 800m to 1km away from my place.

The TP-Link USB extension cradle is cable tied to the bars on the window.
The cardboard behind the modem is there to protect the modem from the harsh afternoon sun.

Yup I am in the Channel Islands in fact, that is part of the United Kingdom of England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. Just 100 miles south of the UK mainland coast in the Bay of St Malo near France. Way up north from you guys.

I am not certain its a DOS attack causing the router web server to crash but I thought it wise to enable the advanced security features of the router and I hope it does not crash again.

You see I have the Internet set to disconnect after 15 minutes idle and to connect on demand and when it crashes (usually while connected to the Internet) it means the router cannot disconnect after 15 minutes and it stays connected.

Yup, needs more cable ties! Do you have any 2 year olds in the house? ;)

Some mean burglar bars those!

I have "installed" my 3420 semi-vertically to get a sort of chimney effect to dissipate the heat.
