@ Derek

As per the post from morkhans, I have installed the Uniterm booster antenna but without the TP Link Router as I already had the TRENDnet that I've mentioned previosly in this thread. The antenna has made a significant improvement on my indoor reception which was not great previously. I had a slight delay on my order being fulfilled from the Uniterm guys which they were quick to rectify once I brought it to their attention.

I'm still undecided as to the user friendliness of their inductive coupler as it is somewhat bulky and probably not ideal for me because I still need my E1820 to be mobile and I'm somewhat loathe to stick the velcro strip onto the modem (hey, it's my issue o.k. :D )

For your purposes however I would be inclined to agree with morkhans in terms of the kit including the router.

My 5c worth.

Ah, I thought they also sold these:

FYI Cell_C is releasing a new 3G WI-FI router/ moden

MyZone is a Wi-Fi router that creates a wireless hotspot or network, thus allowing the user to share their mobile broadband internet connection across multiple devices. This include notebooks, PC , smartphones and tablets

but cant tell to much :D will be in this month

Cell_C 007

Cost would be the determining factor else my HTC works just fine!

Every one trust me, and just hold on before rushing to get another type, lets just say going to be an offer NO one can say no to !!!!!

I'm actually in the market for a router for my E1820 now, but want a mains powered unit - I'm assuming the Cell C one is a battery powered unit??

@ Morkhans & OMB

Thank you very much for your replies.. i do find them very helpfull and am seriously considering that package.

just a couple of questions tho:
1- if i use that external antenna will it make my internet connection stable. reason i ask is that sometimes i can get 5mbs downloading but only for a second or 2 and when im downloading something my connection speeds jump drastically all the time below 1mb and it really is a pain. jus yesterday i downloaded 1.3 gigs of data but it took about an hour to download 700mb but then took about 4 hours to download the rest.

2. has anyone tried the high gain antenna from poynting direct? this one... http://www.poyntingdirect.co.za/ZoomImage.aspx?productID=K-LPDA-A0044-03

3. if cellc in bringing out a new router then what was wrong with the old one? didnt it work or what?

4. those couplings you showed earlier morkhans from poynting direct for the usb , will they work on the antenna you refered me to or would i need that big coupling?

thank you guys for your support

1. Depends on a number of factors. If you fall within the coverage area as per the coverage map, the tower is not congested and it has ample backhaul then an external antenna will help.
2. ginggs knows it well
3. Old router was Huawei and needed you to attach your USB modem. New router has a 3G card included, it's a different thing.
4. Those connectors usually end in a SMA connector which is the standard connection for external antennas.

Great... thank you for your replies.

i will probably get the router and antenna for my modem... im jus hoping it will give a more stable connection so that maybe it doesnt lag on my ps3.. doesnt normally lag but if im playing call of duty black ops and busy shooting someone the guy will probably see me a few slit seconds before i see him which will result in my death :)

thank you so much for your help

@ Derek

As per the above, also remember that the CellC network is still very much in the implementation stage and therefore can be erratic, if you follow some of the other threads you will see many complaints about consistent speeds, my speeds vary between 3Mbps and 0.03Mbps depending on time of day at the moment.

The older CellC Huawei router also had compatibility issues with some modems.

I wonder if one of you smart guys can recommend a 3G Wifi router for me?

I presently have the 5GB Cell C E1820 USB speedstick (which I'm VERY happy with) and intend getting the Vodacom 2+2GB top-up contract on 1 May.

Which 3G Wifi router would be best to work with either the Cell C E1820 or the Vodacom USB modem that will probably be supplied with the coming Vodacom contract?

ok so this is what ive done.

i went to uniterm direct and asked for the bundle with the 3g booster and the router, they were out of stock with the booster so i just got the router, they gave me the tp-link MR3420 router at R425 ecl.

now i have a problem... i updated the firmware to the latest and i googled to find the bins for the ZTF MF668 but they dont have those bins on the tp link site. i read somewhere on this forum that you can add the MF160 bin an it will work fine. i found 2 MF160 bin files for south africa and uploaded both of them. so technically my modem should work but it isnt... im not sure if im missing something or what. i tried searching this forum for anything else but cant seem to get the router to work.

could someone please give me some advise.. thank you

Morkhans

problem i have now is i cant connect to playsation network, my ip an internet connection are good on the playstation but it jus keeps kicking me out.. anyone know anything about this?

Every one trust me, and just hold on before rushing to get another type, lets just say going to be an offer NO one can say no to !!!!!

Ok, I will wait a week or two to see if there is any announcement before I go and buy another router. I have already wasted R500 on a TP-Link that does not work.

I have bought a netgear MBRN3000 and can confirm that it does *NOT* work with the CELL C ZTE MF190 modem.

I believe the TP LINK works with the MF190 with the updated bin file. Can anyone please confirm their experiences with this?

Thanks in advance

Ok Cell_C,
I have looked at your site and you have indeed added a 3G router to your product list. That is fine BUT it specifies that it is only compatible to the Huewei modem. You supplied me with a MF 190, although your website clearly depicts the Huawei model. Is this misrepresentation ???????
To resolve the issue I would think that CellC should replace my present MF 190 with a compatible model. ( Huawei )
What do you guys think ?

yip the tp-link mr3420 works great... download updated firmware an then the bin file... can get all this from tp-link web site and you can even find instructions.. im using th ZTE MF668 cell c modem. i think it jus might have an issue with playstation tho.

You see, how I bought a MR3420 and it does NOT work properly. It's not like it does not work at all; it works when it feels like it. Extremely frustrating. I am taking mine back and asking for another one, maybe it will work.

Got this from another forum if anyone is interested with cell c, routers and playstation together.

Cell C to PSN network errors - possible network changes last week?

Hopefully there’s a Cell C rep on here who can assist with this since the call centre is, for all intents and purposes, useless.

Basically, I think Cell C must have made some kind of changes to their network 3 or 4 days ago, and this is affecting sign-on to the PSN (Playsation Network) on the PS3, and extends to the official PS sites (i.e. http://uk.playstation.com ) which can’t be accessed.

Before anyone starts saying it’s the Anonymous hacking group still targeting Sony, please read the following link to the PS3za forums, (http://www.ps3za.co.za/forum/showthr...t=74291&page=3 ) and the pages following it.

In short, after finding out in drips and drabs that some people could connect to the PSN locally and others not, eventually it has been established that those who couldn’t connect all had one thing in common – they were all using Cell C.

As is also stated in the thread, the Cell C call centre simply refuses to think it’s anything to do with them, but I’d like the Cell C rep to perhaps investigate and confirm what the issue is.

Can someone, anyone from Cell C please have a look at this?

Thanks,

Please let Shred and myself know if you find your setup very unstable if you leave your hardware ON as I am having major problems with the MR3420+USB Cell C ( I've tried other USB modems) all seem to have a stability issue, disconnection, unplugged.
If you don't have any issue, maybe it's the external antenna booster that's causing the problems as it's the only additional item I have connected to my MR3420
