I am just having troubles setting up a TP Link MR3220 for a mate.
1. It takes 10 min for the modem to be identified.
2. It wont connect ( No vodacom settings under ISP, I used set the dial number manually. Still, it wont connect)
3. Once it identifies the modem, aftyer a few minutes it will just go back to identifying 3G modem. Then it takes another 5 minutes for it to identify.
Modem Is a Vodacom K3565-Z.
Upgraded to latest firmware, even used a older one. No luck. Uploaded Modem Bin file too.

Does the modem work ok directly on the pc? What is the signal strength?

Yes, the modem responds fine.
Signal strength varies between 55-70% once the 3G router has been identified.

So you guys recommend getting a different dongle? Only reason we bought the Mr3220 was because it said it on TP links site that the dongle will be supported.

My gf uses the same dongle when she is on the road. She has no issues with it.

I just feel like dumping the router and dongle out the window :D

Biggest crap ever...
is the modem directly connected to the USB port of the router, or via extension cable? try direct connection

Shuffed it directly up the modems a$$ :D

Hehe, yes, its directly connected to the modem, no cable in between.

Edit loaded an older firmware.

Seems the identifying issue has stopped. Now under 3G settings there is no Pin field anymore. Do I need to remove the PIN, as it wont connect.

there was problem - I have the 3420 and used their latest firmware for a while and had LOADS of kaaark with it - went back to the 110418 firmware and now works 100% and only takes 1m10s to identify the modem and another 10sec to log onto network - would be lekker if TPLink had an email list for firmware updates and told us that the june FW was cr@p

Edit:
yeah, the older version does not have pin functionality, so you need to switch pin off on the sim

Thx Bundu,

I will also disable the PIN.

If that does not solve my problem, I will post my log file.

Argh ffs, just started to identify again.

when did you download the FW you're using now?
from what I understand, there was quite a bit of farting around on the TPLink FW page, so perhaps download the 110418 version fresh again and load it - Use your modem dashboard to disable the pin and while still testing, always plug modem DIRECTLY into router - dial number: *99# APN: internet "Connect Automatically" Max Idle: 0

these steps ended my frustrations and I use the E1820 and the K4505Z and both now work very well - good luck and post your results please

Im starting to think it is the router.

I just unplugged the 3G dongle to remove the pin, Modem still says identifying, and after 1-2 min, it complains and says, Modem not compatible, please edit your Modem setting manually. Then the page gets refreshed...Identifying :D

Im pretty sure thats not normal :D

Modem Dashbord?

I dont think I have that option. I took the sim card out noe and disabled the pin in my cell phone.

edited my last post - pin should be disabled now

So. After jack **** worked I decided to flash the Dongles Firmware.
Took me a while to find something. In some chineese forum I could Identify a file "DL_K3565-Z_Celcom_EUV1.00.01.exe"

Pulled it, ran it and it flashed the dongle and added some ZTE software to it. Vodacom software has been removed, not that this is important, just mentioning it.

Loaded the 110418 version onto the router. Plugged the dongle in and who would have guessed it, it connected.

Now lets see how stable its going to be :D

It works perfectly.

Hi!

I have a DGN2200 and i still cant get myne to work on a Cell c ZTE black modem. Ive contacted netgear and they told me my ISP (Cell C) is not supported so how do u get yours to work? I've had mine for 5 months now and still couldnt use it!

thnx

I have been trying to get the MR3420 to work with the Vodafone K4605 modem, with no success, using the latest June 2011 firmware (downloaded last week).

I then reflashed the MR3420 with the older firmware on the website, and now suddenly it supports the K4605 modem.

However, it is unstable, and disconnects after just a few minutes, after which you have to power the router off-and-on to get stuff working again.

I have reported this to TP-Link and will see what happens.

However, if I place any value on my time I should just dump this router and get something decent.

Any ideas ? Maybe the Dovado 4G products ? Any recommendations, and where can I get them for a decent price ?

BTW, I did have the Dovado UMR, and that was pretty rubbishy, are the newer ones any better ?

Note : I must admit that the June 2011 firmware with the Cell C E1820 worked quite well, and was stable.

Have you tried upgrading the firmware on the modem? If you still dont have any luck send an email to [email protected] and we should be able to get it going.

There does not appear to be new firmware for the modem, it is one of those Vodafone-crippled units that hardly ever get new firmware because Vodafone is too lazy to release any.

The unit is actually a Huawei E372, but I have not been able to install the E372 firmware, I need some sort of password to do this.

I have been in contact with dbg and TP-Link, but don't really expect much to come of that.

Is it possible to send us the modem so we can test with it? I take it the modem works fine when connected directly to a notebook?

Sadly my newly purchased TP-LINK MR3420 has suffered an out of the box failure.
Rather frustrating as this is the second MR3420 that I have purchased and the other one is working fine.
It goes back to the distributor tomorrow for a replacement, after having to cancel a scheduled installation for this evening.
A tad embarrassing to say the least.

It ran for a while till it warmed up, then simply locked up. No Ping response, therefore no web user interface and wireless signal cut off.
A power off reset would let it run for a short while before the same problem again and this cycle would repeat.
Let it cool down. Then runs for a while longer before failing again.
This all on factory default settings (left like that intentionally) and trying different firmware versions.

My guess is hardware failure.

Of a total of four Wireless TP-LINK router products I have bought, this will the second out of box failure.
The first had a USB port failure after warming up. (also seemingly a temperature issue)

Not sure if I am simply having bad luck here, or there are quality control issues with these products.

Just thought I would share an objective opinion.

Hi base122, we have a failure rate of less than 3 units per 1000 sold which is pretty good by anyone's standards, I can assure you the quality as well as the QC on the TP-LINK products in industry leading, we'd not offer a 2 year warranty on the product if this werent the case. I can confidently say that you've just had bad luck here.

If you purchased it from Uniterm Direct or one of our resellers, return the unit to us and I'll ensure you get an immediate replacement unit, send me a PM with your details and I'll chase it up for you in the morning.

This goes for anyone who experiences issues with a TP-LINK product, we have very good RMA policies on the TP-LINK products because there are so few returns and will always replace the unit unless of course its been hit by lightning or has been subject to a power surge, if its urgent we'll usually get it tested and replaced while the customer waits.

Its impossible to avoid out of the box failures with electronic items, no matter how stringent the quality control but its how these failures are handled that counts.

Hey Kernel - Myself and my GF each have one of your routers and we're very happy, but what's up with the firmware updates on the website and the modem compatibilty lists for the 3420?
