Yes, I tried it with a friend on Vista and it didn't work, but it did work on XP 32 bit.
 
Hmmm, interesting experiment, the E372 works on my ancient Huawei D100T router whereas the K4605 does not.

Just proves my point that Vodafone stuffs up the compatibility, and whatever else, when they fiddle with these modems.
 
The next development in my continuing saga, which started when I cancelled my useless Telkom 4mbps ADSL :

I have now retired my new TP-Link MR3420, it has gone into the box of retired / useless equipment. Just too unstable, and doesn't support any of the modems that I use (K4605, E372, etc).

I am now using a little Asus WL-330N3G router, that I picked up in the USA recently. It was meant to be my travel device, but it works better than any other router that I have, and supports all the new modems (like my E372), so what the hell, it can become my main router for a while.

Over wifi, with the the Asus WL-330N3G and Huawei E372 :

That's pretty good for the poor signal that I have, and in the middle of the day (and an order of magnitude faster than what my 4mbps ADSL was).

Yeah i am quite sure that there is at least two firmware rev. "missing". First of course it's the firmware dated late june with the "sim pin lock" bug. And then the bug fixed rev. dated middle/late july. Even though the "sim pin lock" bug it worked quite well. Sometimes you had to disconnect the power once or twice but eventually it worked. At least for me.

We are currently trying to address both the Firmware issues and modem support with TP-LINK.

Thats good to hear. I'm sure there is a reason for the firmware chaos but the wise approach would be to keep the firmware rev. history on the download page but kill the links if they dont want people to use them. Just adding/removing/renaming for no apparent reason (for us users) just annoys people.

Well, i'm not done in my quest to find the firmwares :) so i guess i'll just have to step up my efforts!

So am I, and I am impressed with the Asus network equipment.

I must investigate whether they have a larger desktop type router that would suit my purposes better - at least they seem to keep their firmware up-to-date.

what is your main purpose if i may ask?

the reason i'm asking is, i want to cancel everything telkom and just use a 3G modem connected to a wifi N router for gaming.... i just dont know if it can work that way and if it would be wise to do it like that....

I have cancelled my Telkom 4mbps ADSL because of poor performance (and cost), and am running totally on Cell C at the moment. I have an 8ta 2+1 bundle as a backup.

I bought a fast modem (K4605 converted to E372) in order to ensure maximum performance - it also accepts an external antenna.

At the moment everything works fine. I did have router problems (MR3420 unstable), but am OK at the moment.

But I don't play online games, I don't know if you would have a problem with the latency - just make sure before you cancel ADSL.

After quite a bit of tweaking, I managed to get my Tenda 3G 611 R+ router working with my (debranded**) ex-Vodafone Huawei K3765 usb dongle with an 8Ta simcard in it on the 8Ta 10Gb for R199 per month deal.

** I used the Debranding (Permanent) method from this website [warning: this does invalidate the Vodafone guarantee on your dongle]:

Channel: leave it set to AutoSelect, or choose channel 6

Once the Huawei dongle has been correctly detected by the Tenda, the System Log should show something like this:

Firmware TP-Link MR3420 & MR3220 wanted!

Due to TP-Links unprofessionall handling of firmwares for their 3G-routers as mentioned in http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/273744-Routers-to-use-with-3G-HSPA-Modems/ and http://www.mobilabredband.se/forum/viewtopic.php?id=2750 (swedish) with recalled , released and recalled versions i'm planning to gather all known and previously available firmware versions for MR3420 and MR3220 and publish them for download. There is no logical reason for TP-Link to act like this. As long as the user can downgrade to an earlier firmware version there is no need to "protect" customers from buggy firmwares.
The result of TP-Links firmware chaos is decreased modem compability. For example the fairly new and common modem Huawei E372 suddenly is not supported in the most recent firmwares available from TP-link!

So, if you have firmware versions saved on your harddrive that is not listed here:

I can ask our technicians to upload all of the versions that we have to our web server and you can pull whichever ones you dont have.

Yup, from Uniterm Bedfordview, Pieter in our stores has worked quite a lot on these units so will be able to help you, bring the modem along. Just take note that we're almost out of stock on the MR3420's so you'll need to order one soon if you want it.
