3G/HSPA/LTE Routers

I did check the compatibility before I bought the unit - MF190 is fine with a MR3420 and it works fine with my CellC SIM. For some reason it is unreliable with a VC sim (connects for a minute if that then drops), but that same sim works in my tablet (in the same location). My phone is also on vodacom and fine there too for data (again, in the same location). I'll concede I haven't managed to try a generic dashboard on a PC and see if the MF190 and vodasim works on there - that will rule out (or confirm) any problem with vodasim and MF190.
 
Hi again guys,

I asked a few weeks ago about what router to get for my Cell C modem (Huawei E1752) for my new 8ta 60/60 deal.
I have been looking at TP-Links 3 models and can't seem to decide which one is right for me. It seems tat some people are having trouble with the MR3420??

Also I was wondering how difficult it is to set these devices up? I am not very clued up on wireless what are the steps involved in setting it up? Also do I have to load 8ta software on my modem instead of the Cell C's??

Sorry to ask such basic questions!

You should be fine with a TPLink and the E1752. Setup is pretty straight forward. If you are using the modem in a router you can leave the dashboard software as is..

And as far as what model to use? I see that the MR3020 is portable - in that you can run it from your laptop. however the MR 3420 is the fastest. Which of these models would last the longest before becoming outdated?

Really going to depend on your needs. If you are going to be travelling and taking the router with you get the small one. The MR3420 is only faster in the sense of Wifi transfer, personally if I'm going to be pushing large amounts of data around I'll use Ethernet instead.

Oh ok thanks that makes sense. Tell me though what is the range like on the small one? and is there any other difference between the MR3020 and MR3420 other than the portability factor and WiFi speed?

Also why would someone go for the MR3220 if they can get the MR3020 for R20 more and the MR3020 is 'portable' or is there something that I am missing that the MR3220 and MR3420 have over the MR3020
 
I don't know anything about the MR3220.

But the 3G functionality of the MR3020 is much better than that of the MR3420.

And the MR3020 does not have an external antenna, so the wifi range is less - I have done a few superficial tests, and while it may cover a small house or a flat, it will not cover a house (whereas the MR3420 does).

I am going to disable the wifi on the MR3020, and use a Netgear 600N router as an access point.

The MR3420 goes into the junk box.

Reliability, it just works better - the MR3420 does not work properly with all of the new modems, and when you get it to work it disconnects and hiccups.

The MR3020 works perfectly with the E372 (flashed K4605) natively (ie no bin file), whereas the MR3420 doesn't - also with E367.
 
Ok, so now I'm leaning towards the MR3020, but still concerned by the range. Anyone have a MR3220? Does it have the same issues as the MR3420?

Vodafone K3772-z usb modem

I am new to this thread and wondering if someone can help me, i purchased a prepaid 3g package from Vodacom last weekend which cam with a Vodafone K3772-Z usb stick.For the life of me i cannot find a 3G wireless router that is compatible with this 3g Modem. Please could someone tell me if they are aware of any3G wireless router will work?
 
Thanks to kernel and his guys I got myself a MR3220 on special. When I run a speed test (using my 8ta branded e173 on 8ta 10GB special) I get awesome download speeds - between 4 and 5 Mbps - but it doesn't even connect on the upload. Any ideas?

Check the TPLink section in the first post, you might have the throughput issue.
