I've had a Neotel Prime 1.5 G for about two years now. I then decided to try online gaming with my PS3 and realised what a pain it was,..constant lagging.

I'm pretty new to this DSL/Gaming world so I am carefully considering my next options.
I have read lots of threads here, and for now am thinking of starting with a 384kbps line.

That being said, I now have no idea which is the best ISP to go with. As helpful as some of these threads have been, they have also very much complicated things for me as well.

I know nothing about pings and news servers. All I want is to play games like FIFA and F1 online after work with no hassles and download some torrents (if possible). My budget is about R500 a month.

I figure 10G a month should suffice for a newbie like me. So big decision, which ISP?

From what I have read in these forums these are my current candidates:
1. MWEB Uncapped 384k (no 10G capped, impact of shaping?)
2. Web Africa 384k 10 G (performance issues?)
3. Openweb Gold Uncapped 384k (shaped?)
4. Cybersmart (weekend option sold out!)
5. Afrihost - ruled out due to mybb feedback

Please help make a decision. I now have information overload and just need the best option for my needs.

gaming performance go webafrica.

for uncapped , mweb or openweb gold.

if you will survive with 10gig cap go webafrica.

Thanks. Tha's the kind of info I need.
I've survived on 1.5gig. 10G should be a huge improvement for starters.

Happy to report absolutely no performance issues on our network Deluxxe Legend :)
Why don't you have a look at our Complete offerings to see which one suites you. All of these packages include line rental.

Have decided to trail MWEB on their 6 months special for starters. It seems to me like all ISP's have their own issues. I hope I don't regret it, but if these 6 months don't work, then thinking of trying OpenWeb Gold, reading some interesting reviews on that service. Webafrica will unfortunately be my last option. They might be good, but messed up my hosting account, so don't really want anything to do with them for now!

To be honest I think the best package for you to take would be telkom's new dobroadband package. That 1MB/s one with 5gigs cap.

Since you're used to 1.5gigs, 5gigs should be fine.

Agreed. And like I've mentioned in a previous post, make use of the trial 3 month free adsl from Telkom. This is aimed at dudes like you, so go ahead and test out adsl, hopefully it meets your needs. Let us know how it goes btw.

I wish I had read some of these replies sooner. But unfortunately Telkom will not offer me the new 3 months trail because I had already installed my ADSL line a week before the promotion. They say the only option is to cancel my existing one and reapply, but am weary of waiting another month to apply for another ADSL line.

I am also happy with trying the do Broadband package as suggested, but from my previous experiences with Telkom, I am certainly reluctant about signing a 24 month contract with them. Besides, I just bought myself a new router and don't want to be tied down on costs/contracts that cover any device charges.
