Afrihost ADSL price cuts and improved uncapped performance

Since they don't need extra capacity, doesn't this make Business Uncapped packages look less and less attractive? And some of the uncapped deals look much better price-wise. Will there be some price adjustments? Or will Business Uncapped users now be subsidizing the rest of the network?

So just to clarify - am I billed for both the Bus. Uncapped account usage for this month and the new package, or is the number of gigs I've used thus far deducted from the capped package I switch to ?

Changes from Uncapped to Capped go into effect at the end of the month. So you can switch now but you will only get billed on 1st April for the new data.

Shaping Policy: 25% Download/ 12.5% P2P

I've done 35Gb on my 1Mb uncapped account so far for March, maybe I should switch to the capped 50 + 50Gb seeing as I will get full line speeds and still have enough data to burn?

I had the same experience as you. Switch to capped and have been very happy so far, especially with data now being doubled.

I am sorry you feel that way. Again, that has not been the case, we increased capacity twice last year and there was an improved on performance. As we say on the statement, capacity has already been introduced in the North and more is coming in the East and South.

The aim to ease shaping on Uncapped accounts. The only unshaped accounts are Capped DSL and Business DSL.

RoMark is correct, the South has had no improvement whatsoever it has actually become worse

@Afrigirl

We will be reviewing Capped Bundle prices anyway. As soon as things are finalised on our side, we will make the announcement.

So what you saying is that Bundled accounts - the data under-usage at month end is used to cross-subsidised the Line cost saving....

You peed on my battery....

If those prices become permanent I'm definitely switching to Capped. 60GB's for R129 is good enough for me.

50+50 at R199. Consider me signed up!

I've looked at my usage and I've only exceeded 100GB over December.

Will save R100 and get unshaped 24/7 without my data running out.

I understand what you are saying that the changes may not have made a huge difference on your end but there has been a general improvement on the network since the changes and we are planning on adding more capacity.

Depends on where you live. KZN has seen ..extremely bad changes since January. Having to use up turbocharge minutes to download files you need urgently is kind of pointless, only alternative to that is staying awake till 2am and grab the 6hour window where your account runs at full speed.

And in this same thread you said the upgrades are coming in the next few weeks.. these "coming weeks" have been coming since last year. Are we expected to wait several more months or just jump ship to another ISP?

Afrihost added that their uncapped DSL clients will also have extra capacity sent their way, which the ISP said “will mean that the [-]best[/-] uncapped experience in the market will [-]get even better[/-] return to normal levels”.
ftfy

Seriously, I can't remember the last time I wasn't shaped.

Bundles got the Mystery Bonus this month. We will see what happens in the coming months.

Perhaps they gave us the mystery bonus, so we would not feel as crap when this announcement came out.

That sucks.....
But bundled subscribers (like me) got double data anyway this month.
So we haven't lost anything, really.
I'm sure that if the bundled pricing isn't finalised by 2nd April, they'll just do the same thing again (...right, Afrigirl?)

Well, i don't understand doubling the capped data while still applying harsh shaping on uncapped and no adjustment of business uncapped pricing. It doesn't look like regular uncapped is getting much of a deal, and business uncapped is getting no deal at all.

They prob want all uncapped to move to capped.

Now all I need is for Telkom to finish building the MSAN in my area. They laid concrete and put a big white box on it (techie told me it was for the MSAN) about 200m from my house. That was about 8 months ago and nothing has changed since.

Anyways, if these prices become permanent then I'll sign up without a doubt but not if it's just for a few months..

I am not sure what you mean with this comment. The data part of the bundle is linked to what we current sell the data for, so if we make changes to the data, we will need to make changes to the bundle as well.
