How is the speed of afrihost's business uncapped compared to mweb's premium uncapped and which is better for gaming? Im signing up for a 2mb line on monday and im trying to decide on an ISP.

I may be biased - but I would say AH all the way .... being an Ex MWEB customer.

So, I believe I am all sorted.

In frustration, I climbed into the Telkom connections where possible and cleaned up what I could.

Made some tweaks on the router and it looks like I am back in business.

Having said that - please - PRETTY PLEASE - ask the support guys to respond in near time if real time isnt possible. The silent treatment doesn't instill confidence ,,,

It is with sadness that I report AH are going through one of their communication droughts again.

I have now mailed support three times with no response, and mailed Afrigeinie, who responded needing more info, which I have sent, but then never got back to me.

If I have upset anyone - sorry.

If not, please explain, that its just good business and common courtesy to respond to messages.

Thanks

That's really terrible. I see you later posted that this was eventually resolved and the Telkom guy did come out, but it's really poor from both our team and especially the guys here on MyBB not to reply to you (which is very unusual).

Sorry about that :(

same problems on our side
it has been like this for more than a week now but when we test on vox there is no problems

That's very strange, performance in the East should be pretty good or at least what we expect it to be.

Can you post any more specific results so I can troubleshoot with you? Traceroutes and speedtests are usually a great start.

Line stats are looking much worse after 5 January when they "resolved" the issue.
SNR downstream is 5.4 :(
Upstream 12
Downstream used to be 11+
Funny thing is that it doesn't EVER disconnect.

Attenuation is 44.9

Port resets are not helping. I tried the stabilise line feature speed on the clientzone to lower the sync sleed and see if it brings up the SNR but it keeps syncing to 4mbps even though I choose a lower rate.

A telkom guy was here yesterday and blamed the problem with the SNR on a tree's branches touching the line. Cut the branches and no change whatsoever. LOL
Will report a fault again and hopefully the same guy comes out

EDIT:
I ran the test my line in the client zone and under ADSL router results the SNR there says 11.8 and attenuation 25.5

Under DSLAM results SNR is 9.5 and attenuation 44.5

Looks like there's been a pretty big improvement there. Sometimes the right tech knows exactly what to do ;)

Damn - this thread is quiet ...

Must be because AH is working like a machine !!

it works ?
you must have some special afrihost line no one knows about .
mine hasn't worked in weeks.

well to be specific it only works when i'm not in the house apparently. must be some conspiracy
suppose i cant complain too much tonight its working at a whopping 0.10kb as apposed to the usual 0.02

The tech didn't do anything. The stats on my router still stays the same and the test my line also stays the same but they differ from each other... Latencies reached a new high tonight breaking past 1200ms+ :(

All good here, nothing wrong.

I know this is off topic, but AfriTeam when will we see uncapped cloud hosting?

If you mean Uncapped web traffic to a server, I couldn't say. We'd love to do something like that, but the danger is always the abusers. We discourage people from seedboxing and other types of abuse by charging for additional web traffic. But if bandwidth at the data centre becomes cheap enough (and capacity is hugely increased to the point where it's not an issue) it's something we could definitely consider.

Definitely sounds like there is a problem with your line there, but we'll need to see more test results to really determine that. I'm guessing based on how little is being reported here and other platforms, so we're seeing very few network issues at all.

Can you post some more results, like a traceroute?

Definitely something weird going on there. We'll need to keep troubleshooting if the tech is convinced there is no line fault, otherwise we'll need to log a new fault for a second opinion from another tech :(

Can anyone tell me why authentication is so slow on Afrihost?

It takes about 40-50 seconds on Afrihost for my account to authenticate, while on other ISP's it's less than 10 seconds. This has consistently always been the case, but there were bigger problems to be solved in the past. Now that those are seemingly sorted, this would be nice to figure out as well.

Thanks.
