Exactly. How can it be improved?

We have one point where traffic is routed to radius servers. I suppose it could be improved by having more radius servers around the country, but that is extremely problematic, logistically and practically and would probably cause more headaches than anything else. I think we can live with anything below a minute for authentication, because once you're connected, it no longer has any effect on continuous connectivity. I really don't feel this is a crucial issue, as long as the actual connected experience is what we expect.

Anyone else on Afrihost unable to connect to the Playstation Network? PS4 just wouldn't connect this morning, after switching to Vox it connected without a problem.

Haven't seen any reports of this, this morning.
Odd that you haven't been able to connect, did you try changing DNS or rebooting to try again?

Tried rebooting and that didn't work. Since a switch to Vox fixed it I haven't tried any other troubleshooting. Will see later tonight if problem persists.

I am on 4mbps business with 1mbps upload on the line.
Streaming, browsing, downloading, P2P (torrents): Perfect -- with business optimisation off.
Gaming: Average. Ping 20ms~30ms more than other ISPs for me (PMB).
Doing anything whilst uploading: Awful.

This account does what it needs, but I feel that if Afrihost were to create some sort of shaping policies on their network to help queue upload packets of different services, it would be a much more responsive account for business use (I use DropBox and Google Drive a lot and I have to limit them to 50KB/s or else browsing takes 10x longer and I can't stream).

512kbps upstream is 50KB/s so you limiting to its full speed?

Seems like it's quite quiet around these parts, what kind of troubles are you having?

Just doing some research for a future ISP - Primarily going to be used for gaming though.

Thanks for the info, Yea - I've used my Tomato firmware based router to apply some limits to uploads myself. Gaming concerns me a bit - My one room mate is super picky about having the best pings... lol. But currently I get like 180 to Dota 2 on za servers... So i guess 20 or 30 ms extra wont be a problem on normal pings.

99.9% of the time I've had an AH business account it's been smooth sailing. Currently on 8Mbps and it's completely unshaped 24/7. The only video I stream is Youtube and BBC iPlayer and both work fine. There are loads of gamers in my house and none of us have issues playing online or downloading games and patches.
