It also seems as if We are ALL being routed the same way - JHB.

Do you by any chance live in the Southern Suburbs? I have a few friends on my exchange on other ISPs but they all have normal pings...

Sunningdale/Table View.... but this seems to be a Telkom issue.

My MWEB account works on local addresses, but not at all on international links.
I have tried my other accounts (Axxess/Web Africa/Vox/Telkom) and they ALL suffer from the increased latency, and ALL are being routed through JHB. This load-shedding is causing serious havoc all over the country in so many different ways... don't get me started on all the hardware failures :(

Sincerely hope this isn't a precursor to a massive Telkom fault where we wait months for resolution like we did with the IPC upgrade :/

Is anyone else's speed and and ping up to crap this morning in Cape Town ?
Pings in the 200ms range and speed barely 50kbs on a 2mb line.

Edit: A few router restarts and it seems fine now, holding thumbs it stays

Mine's also completely borked in PTA East. Can't get more than 100kbps on a 10mb line.

Internet has turned to crap again. 500+ms latency and download speeds of 1-3Mbps on my 8Mbit account.

Sorry to hear that.

As far as I can tell the network is OK at the moment, but there seem to have been dips over the weekend, but that is more likely to be due to loadshedding being instituted heavily this weekend. I personally had no power most of the weekend. I read a book, it was weird.

Any results I can look at?

That doesn't look good. That seems to be on our side, judging from the spike in latency as well, which is not good.

Is it still showing this when you test now?

Telkom did report that loadshedding was causing problems with their systems as well. If you think about it, even if your area has power, if your traffic routes via a BNG (gateway) that is offline due to loadshedding, it could cause all kinds of havoc. The last issue we saw in the Western Cape was apparently due to loadshedding but we didn't see systems go offline completely but perform at about 50% capacity, which caused massive latency and slow speeds, even though our IPC was 100% operational (it runs on a full power backup at our data centre)

This is not an IPC issue at all, as far as I can see. Seems to be regional issues, and I would suspect it's related somehow to loadshedding, since it seems to coincide with Eskom's starting loadshedding at the end of last week. Also, the precise timing also suggest this, IPC or network issues usually escalate slowly over time, not that suddenly - unless an IPC link suddenly fails. That is not usually the case though and certainly not the case at the moment.

That's pretty concerning, if you're seeing local pings of 200ms.

Can I see the full traceroute?

If restarting the router fixed the problem, it's most likely a line or sync problem at the exchange :(

Definitely no issues that I am aware of in the North. As I mentioned I had no power for a big chunk of the weekend, but when I did, DSL speeds were pretty good.

When did you last test?

Its been running perfectly since I did all the restarts, so no worries here at the moment

When did you last test?

The whole of yesterday and this morning. Followed the same pattern. Reset the router and it's fast and then over the next 10 minutes it gets slower and slower and then becomes unusable.

Lightning fried our router on Saturday evening, though. So replaced that and the above happened with the new one. Not sure if there's a problem with this router so going to try another one, but I'm wondering if it couldn't also be damage on the line itself from the lightning?

I have contacted your support almost an hour and a half ago due to zero p2p throughput, it seems it is being throttled to death. Is anyone working today? I have done several resets and there has been no difference only more frustrations due to my connection being limited, resetting several more times gives me full access but still no p2p. Also line test on client zone fails every time.
