Second night in a row that I've experienced this. When it comes to this time my P2P traffic is dead, and I mean completely dead.

I have had the same experience. It also happened this morning between 2am and 6am, basically completely dead :(
The service seems to be quite erratic of late.

I am experiencing this as well.. on an 8 meg line i am lucky to get 80kb/s each evening for the last 3 days

Yea, same here. Anything with google in it is slow as hell, any site with google ads is dead. Can't properly connect to Xbox Live either, constant timeouts.

Normal http downloads are fine though (i.e. steam / microsoft updates )

Hi Afrihost, I am very disappointed, 2nd night in a row now and I am unable to access my usual online services that always used to work. (gaming)
I pay you top dollar every month for my "business account" and it is performing worse than free accounts from openweb and axxess.
I have tried these free accounts and am able to login to no problems on pc and ps4.
But when I switch back to my afrihost business account, I am unable to logon.
At first I thought it was Telkom line issue, but when I tried the open web free account I realized it was my afrihost account.
Also any downloads off istore using the AH account are impossible - took 2 hours to dl whatsapp, when I swung to the free openweb account it flew and was dl`d in seconds.

Just keep sending trace routes, their engineers are working on it. Soon it will be fixed.

Soon.

So, I am busy testing a p2p download through a vpn as someone suggested - guess what - getting 355 kB/s.
Disconnect from vpn - get only 20 kB/s.
Things just seem to get "curiouser and curiouser".

Yep, all torrents have gone to the happy hunting grounds - Nadda, Zilch, tipota, zero, pushing up daisies on uploads and downloads. Yet direct downloads are working full steam.
Just as I had finished posting all torrents are coming back up again, but only on 1/2 line speed.

Tell you whats curious .... last week, I was bleeting like a pregnant sheep about the same stuff you guys are having an issue with.

I was told by other OPs that it was Telkom, and whatever, but when I swung over to different accounts - magically things got better.

This week, I am good - cooking with gas = happy little fellow, and the phantom issue is now yours.

Really a curious co-incidence.

Maybe Afrihost is shaping business accounts now during "peak times"...maybe there is a soft cap on business accounts now too?

So according to AH, I am now supposed to change DNS from AH to Google?

I have restarted your sessions , please test this again and see if it works. You will have to reboot your router for it to take effect in some cases. Please change the DNS setting to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. If this doesn't help please let us know.

As per AH techs suggestion, I carried this test out.

I must also say that the frequent disconnects have stopped.

Experience is better, torrents no problem, browsing sometimes is a problem....

What was that about AH has no influence on the second hop? Reason I ask is because of the obvious differences here.

These two test run one after the other this morning.

Morning everyone,

We did see a dip in network demand last night but this seemed to coincide with loadshedding all over the country. AfriGenie did point out that he seemed to see P2P services perform poorly, even though demand was lower due to loadshedding. We don't know if that was linked to loadshedding on Telkom infrastructure.

we are at the point now where they believe themselves so there is nothing wrong

We defiitely take the feedback that we receive here and other social media channels (as well as from support calls and tickets) and feed that back to the team who are working on the network.

I don't think we've ever said everything is fine, we have acknowledged that we're aware of performance issues due to the increase in demand. We have had some success in bringing demand down by catching more rogue P2P traffic on Uncapped accounts and shaping it as it should be. We'll continue to do that, but so far latency and gaming have definitely improved and we expect to see more improvement as we continue with that.

The service seems to be quite erratic of late.

We did see a few reports like this. We're still looking into why this would be, but we do know that networks behave a little erratically during loadshedding.

We're working really hard to ensure that gaming is a priority on the network. TO do this, we've been testing major titles and closely monitoring traffic to ensure that we have optimal routing and priority classification on the network.

Which game title were you having problems with? For the moment we are still seeing slow throughput during heavy demand periods but latency should be stable which should generally make for decent gaming :(

Unfortunately loadshedding is going to be a problem for some time.. That probably means stay away from Afrihost till Eskom fixes it's problems. Oh wait...
