Yea, I am no longer taking Speedtest too seriously; but it is still the quickest way to evaluate the connectivity without analysing trace routes and connecting to another ISP etc. The other more reliable experience based test for me is to simply start a Rdio stream; if it buffers I know there is an issue somewhere. But it is hard to post this type of experience on a forum like this.

Probably worth mentioning - I tried my other ISP accounts on two occasions during the weekend, when the AH connection was slow all ISP's were equally slow using my "Rdio" test. Trace routes were all over the show and the authentication actually disconnected on several occasions. Im hoping Telkom were upgrading something, thats my optimistic hope...

It's weird, because it seems to be run by Ookla or at least use their backend somehow. Speedtest.net still seems the most accurate.
If you do see any more slow downs when you use your Afrihost account drop me a PM with your DSL username and I'll check things out :)
 
after no packet loss for the most of last week packet loss is back since this morning between 3-7%
good going ah
and there the speed goes down the crapper as well

That's some good news and a bit of bad news...

How is the packet loss looking at the moment?

My latency used to be great like this, wish I could get someone to acknowledge that. Hope yours is sorted for good now... I will keep bugging everyone till I get back to this. Afrihost are of no use, empty promises time and time again.

I think to be fair we have always acknowledged the problem, but we've gone all the way through MTN to see if it's something we can change on our side and it's definitely on Telkom's side. We're still pursuing this with Telkom to try to get a result for you. If you've provided all the information requested (as per last mail from Critical Care) then we'll keep pushing this for you.
 
Any reason why my connection to NNTP is being outright throttled when connecting to a certain server? Hell I can't even connect this morning.

Really crappy speeds from the morning until the evening, then it just flies as it usually did.

Change ISP and it flies.
Change to a different server on Afrihost, it flies.

What gives?

Are you using our news server? I've tested that now, seems like it is running a little slow :( That's an issue on the server itself, I'll get our team to check things out.
 
today afrihost is up to crap it started at 12 last night
browsing is very jerky just about made it to this page
come on afrihost are you short on !!! again after just 1 week

Do you have any results that you can paste here?
Has your line normalised btw? I remember a while back seeing that your line was battling with sync?
