Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback - 2

AH, seriously think there is something wrong with your network management software - when I connect to a vpn which I sometimes use, my speeds on p2p sit at around 300 KB/s - virtually dead without the vpn. Also streaming is better (not on YouTube though) and http downloads are faster too. I have spent the last hour or so testing speeds with and without the vpn - overall, my speeds using the vpn are better.

p2p completely dead on unshaped.
even on capped

Weird, my P2P tests were banging last night. Not as great as I've seen in the past which are close to line speed, but certainly better than I've seen of late.

Which area are you in? (North, South, East)

I really can't comment on using VPN for torrents. It would depend on where the server you are using sits. If that's an international server, maybe it pairs you differently in terms of seeders. As far as running torrents off a standard client goes, it was working pretty well for me last night. I pulled down about 5GB in 2 hours. My math sucks but I think that's around 5Mbps. Not the best my line can do, but I think that's decent for network peak.

I can understand what you are saying with regards to p2p and the vpn. But it wasn't only p2p that was better. Overall my speeds were better last night using the vpn - streaming (not YouTube though), http downloads, browsing, even google play store updates.

There could be a few explanations. Like using PPPoE, you could be bypassing local network conditions. It also depends on which services you're using. It would be a good test to try and replicate. For me (in the North) my overall experience was pretty good for downloads and YouTube on a Capped unshaped account, which should perform similar to Business.

I am glad your experience was good.
Well mine wasn't fine.
Used vpn and was better - not perfect.
So please help me to get it right without vpn.
Yes, apparently there is a fault at my exchange - and everytime something goes belly up the exchange is now blamed.

I can't imagine that a faulty exchange would allow better experience over VPN, but it depends on the circumstances. I haven't seen the data, I think you're on PM with AfriGuy.

My experience is just to show that everyone could be having a different experience based on their individual circumstances, local network conditions, line quality, exchange, etc, etc. So it's always best to troubleshoot individually so we can see what exactly is different in the two scenarios and then try to resolve based on that data.

So then let's freaking trouble shoot.
I sent results to AfriGuy.
Was quoted a response from Telkom that I also got from Critical Care about the exchange fault and that (apparently) there are planned upgrades.
I have sent numerous numerous tests since February and nothing more has come of it.
Even critical care hasn't responded to my last email (1May 2015) asking if they had heard anything more from Telkom and to please nag them.

Give me a list of all tests you want me to run so we can get this sorted out.

Thanks for the details! I'm running down to Critical Care now to get an update from them and exactly which test results they will need.

Massive packet loss, 400ms on "MTN" hop in traceroutes to Steam servers, low speed on p2p and streaming services. Moving to Web Africa end of the month

It looks like some of our Users have been shifted over to the Fall Backbandwidth, which will greatly affect their bandwidth and throughput. Our Team is working on disconnecting all of the affected sessions and having them assigned to the correct bandwidth pool. This shouldn't take too long to complete.

Hmmm

Seems as though the MTN network has finally collapsed completely. Connects but can not authenticate. Other ISP's except Axxess work fine.

Called support:-
" You are currently caller number 59 waiting to speak to a representative."

It seems new authenticated ADSL sessions are being shunted over to the FallBack Bandwidth Resource Pool, our Team is in the process of disconnecting all affected Users and having them assigned to the correct Resource Pool.

Well non of my accounts want to authenticate at moment

And it seems now all authentications are being rejected as well... :(

Our Team is already working on it!

And AGAIN, as always, your web site says everything is hunky dory, we have NO problems in AfriHost land... You need to wake up please!!!

The site was updated a few minutes ago...

If you aren't seeing the notification you may be seeing our fallback site instead of the current one. Would you mind refreshing and checking if all is still Green on your side.

What is up with the internet. First it wasn't connecting at all, now speed is incredibly slow.

Browsing is so slow too. Took 1 minute for speedtest website just to load.

Hi!

There is a network wide authentication issue at the moment, and linked to this that when authentication does occur the User is shunted into the Fallback Bandwidth Pool.

Our Team is working on this now with MTN and we should have everyone sorted out in no-time.
