looks like a total collapse of services the only thing working is browsing

I think that's definitely a little sensational. We do know there is some latency and depending on demand some services might be painful. I've experienced this myself trying to watch YouTube yesterday. But I still had working internet the entire day and could do all my essential work (from home) even when latency was pretty bad :(

I have several questions. AH are optimising the network. I appreciate their relative transparency on this forum and understand there are problems and am resigned to the need to wait for a short while longer, even while all the time over R1200 per month gets taken out of my account for a dodgy service.

Telkom on the other hand are addressing exchange congestion in an amazingly opaque way. At least it appears so because I have no clue if they are even looking at upgrading our local exchange, ever.

Both systems would therefore be contributing to latency during busy periods. I have no idea what percentage of latency is due to AH network and what is due to Telkom congestion.

AH manage my line and therefore my interface to Telkom. So I rely on AH to act on my behalf with Telkom when I experience a problem and not just focus on their network.

Timelines for both upgrades are unclear.

Do I just sit back and wait now while AH work to fix things; or if I experience latencies up to 800ms from time to time, or speeds dropping to near zero as happened around 9pm last night, is this the new "normal", should I now be reporting this so that Telkom can at least investigate and put a possible exchange upgrade on their list.

I don't want AH to eventually declare that all is hunky-dory again and realise that I am still scr*w*d because my local Telkom Exchange was the real bottleneck all along.

Heya Gavin

Those results do look pretty terrible :(
I think even with the slightest congestion on the exchange, the results will worsen with what's currently being experienced. While we do see some spikes in latency it shouldn't (and I don't think it is) yielding such poor results.

Exchange congestion is always a tricky one to give an ETA on, most of it is down to future dated planning from Telkom and not a whole bunch can be done to bring those upgrades/ maintenance forward.
We're pushing forward with our improvements, and hopefully those are implemented quickly from our end - but I don't think that'll improve your situation greatly due to the congestion on the exchange.

Have you maybe considered downgrading the account until everything has normalised?

Ok some feedback from my side - my local skype call was better for the first time in ages yesterday. However international gaming ping is still rubbish (erratic, no consistency)

How far are you guys from sorting out the IPC? Having youtube buffering issues again on my 20meg VDSL. Can download files at full line speed, but youtube videos buffer at 360p. DNS Is the 196.7.7.7 and no other traffic on my network.

Glad to hear things are looking up :)
Gaming latency should be fixed up as soon as we've implemented our improvements.

We're still in a testing phase, when I hear word around implementations and going live I'll let you guys know :) We should also have the noticeboard updated with more feedback.

Strange that you're seeing buffering, the latency generally looks quite good here. Have you tried Google's DNS?

Sorry to hear :(
The network looks quite good so far today, are there any tests I can check?

If this is "Good" then I am confused.

I believe this is linked to an MTN/ Telkom fault though? :(
