Hey Guys

Just a heads up that there is a major Telkom outage in the Greater Pretoria area at the moment.

We're seeing many clients with no service while this is being resolved.

Will update you as we get info :(

Protocol Prioritisation
Would you like to activate Protocol Prioritisation?
Protocol Prioritisation will enhance your web experience by prioritising vital
business traffic and ensuring that productivity is not affected by
Peer‑to‑Peer traffic on your DSL line. This will not in any way affect
real‑time services such as browsing or Youtube etc.

Now that's new.

I think this provisional upgrade was just enough to tide us over until we get our full order. Expecting we'll be swimming in bandwidth once Telkom deliver the full order :)

What would you suggest, I am on a 4mbps uncapped deal with extremely slow download speeds and shaping killing me vs a business account say 1mb I download around 170gb per month, Thanks:wtf:

Recently switched to business DSL 4MB in the hopes of seeing improvement of service from Afrihost. What speed should I be expecting on average from the 4MB business DSL?

Did line test as well on clientzone:

ADSL Router Results (Telkom Exchange to Your Location)
Maximum Sync Rate
4096kbps

Current Downstream Sync
4096kbps

SNR (Signal-to-Noise Ratio)
18.0dB

Attenuation
24.0dB

DSLAM Results (Your Location to Telkom Exchange)
Maximum Sync Rate
512kbps

Current Downstream Sync
512kbps

SNR (Signal-to-Noise Ratio)
22.0dB

Attenuation
43.5dB
The amount of resistance on the line. A value below 55dB is good

I've been with Afrihost with bundled line and data service for a long time now and as much as I understand that the problem could lie with exchange or my line as was previously explained, I've never had the speed that I am paying for regardless of sticking with them for so long in the hopes that the speed would improve. Paying for 4MB all this time while only receiving speeds that exceed 1Mbps on occasion.

All above tests have been done ensuring that no other services are running on my computer. I've been through the network and line testing waltz with them so many times. At one point they used the excuse that the exchange is congested but in a following call (not knowing what I've been told) another representative informed me that the exchange has a lot of capacity. Then another guy told me that it is the attenuation that is bad on my line.

To be fair to Afrihost I have tested with Telkom Guest account and MWEB trial account and still experience low speeds on what should be 4MB line. This has been going on for months now.

Is it just tough luck or is there something that can be done?

That speed is very bad, you should get at least double that...

However, the tracert pretty much excludes the exchange from being the culprit here. Perhaps one of the Afripeople here can advise.

Afridudes. Could you please tell me what my saving would be if I choose to remain on the 4mb line. Bundled with your data?

Thanks

I'm currently experiencing the same thing. My speed doesn't stay between 65 and 75 kb/s though. It has been fluctuating quite a bit which has never happened before. At times I'll get full speed, other times my speed drops to ~55kb/s then rises to ~85kb/s.
