We are currently experiencing increased demand in the North[/n] region (Johannesburg, Pretoria and surrounding areas). As a result, some users may experience diminished throughput (speeds) on their DSL.

Our network team are investigating the issue and will be implementing changes to optimise efficiency to manage demand. We apologise for any inconvenience to affected clients and assure them that we are doing everything possible to improve their internet experience.

You need to upgrade your IPC, in the end this high demand is causing "shaping" on accounts that are supposed to run full speed... I am cancelling if this continues.

No shaping is being done on Business, however due to the increased demand slower speeds may be seen :(
We're doing everything we can to have this rectified.

Doing a stellar job!

Woah, came here expecting better results than Axxess' disgusting AUP move on their Business accounts and....well, looks like every ISP is shot to hell at the moment. Where are they days when Mweb where the good guys, prices dropped monthly, uncapped kept getting cheaper and TELKOM (of all people) actually provided a decent uncapped ISP? Sad times.

This. So much this.

I've said it before that ISP's in SA are a "lesser evil" situation. They're all bad in one way or another, so pick one you can live with and make sure you have an LTE backup.

For all Afrihost's flaws at least they communicate, have pretty good prices and one of the best "client zone" web pages around. I would however like to see some promo's on their dsl stuff. Feels like it's been years since AH has given dsl special attention, it's all been mobile :/

Just my 2c

The reason the situation has deteriorated and there are no more hungry ISP's who seem to give a hoot about their consumers is that they have ALL been swallowed by the large operators over the last few years. Expect more decline.

http://businesstech.co.za/news/telecommunications/69781/vox-acquisition-deal-update/:

Vox Telecom is one of the only remaining large telecoms operators and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in South Africa which has not been acquired by a larger operator.

Our only choice is rapidly becoming a few major operators, or ISP's simply fronting for them or re-selling. Economies of scale means no chance of new independent entrants. The only choice will be as for mobile/cell - Voda, MTN, Telkom, and maybe Neotel, all colluding, if not in price, in crappiness of service offerings. And once they've neatly carved up the market they will not care less if you jump from one to the other.

I have 70 ADSL accs with Afrihost , the last week of rubbish network management has got me moving to Webafrica. goodbye and good riddance

Really sorry to hear that you're leaving :( I know things aren't great at the moment, I promise you they will improve though!
Best of luck going forward.

It's a never ending cycle. Everyone will jump to the next ISP, it will eventually deteriorate under strain, rinse repeat.

+1

All ISP's are forced through Telkom's IPC system so they all face the same problems and stumble at the same hurdle.

But such a dramatic drop in speed and no real fix for almost a month, something else is going on. I think the Apple update came at a convenient time, so it could be blamed.

It hasn't been a month of slow speeds though, I think the iOS updates caused the initial spike with no real recovery from there.
Our team is super hard at work trying to get the services normalised.

I hear you. I'm not saying that AH is entirely innocent here, it could very well be an IPC issue making things a whole lot worse. All I'm saying is that my telkom 50gb capped account has failed to even bring up google for many days this month.

As garp said this happens to all ISP's. First it was mweb, now possibly AH and tomorrow probably crystalweb. Once ISP's hit a certain size the IPC model stops being profitable and stops them from growing or at least thats how I see it.
