Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback

8KB/sec on NNTP, full speed (10MB/sec) on HTTP.

You still want to tell me Business accounts are not shaped?
We see the same problem with NNTP being throttled and shaped while other downloads have better speeds.

Come on Afrihost, stop lying to us and buy some more bandwidth like we have to when we run out!

Mine isnt shaped:

Mine seems to be going quite well too:

AfriGuy please don't take it personally. It is just my opinion and was not meant to be derogative. I have seen latency issues on the Afrihost network everyday for the past two weeks. And thought you guys would have sorted it out by now. It is fair to say many of us have shown great patience, but at some point we have draw the line. And mine was today when latency to local servers was over 400ms+ for half the day.

I think we also feel the pressure to try to deliver better performance, so in many ways we do take some strain. I am sure if they let me and AfriGuy at the network, we'd do some awesome (and crazy things).

Seriously though, we do have a dedicated team, headed by our Technical Director, working on this and seeing what changes can be made to improve performance in any possible way. I have been assured that we will do what it takes. I don't know if that means upgrading IPC is on the table just yet, but I'm sure if it comes to that then it will be done as quickly as possible if all other options don't improve in the way we expect.

We're definitely not being dishonest about anything here. We know demand is increasing and we're doing whatever we can in terms of optimisation to improve performance. I can promise that we'll keep working on this until we believe performance is where it should be. If it means buying more capacity, I'm sure our Director's won't hesitate to do so. I think what's important to them is to not increase costs significantly so we can pass on more savings to clients, but if it's what is required, then I am sure that is what they will do.

Speeds have been decreasing since 08:00 AGAIN.
Now at 40%.... this is now going on for the whole month. AH needs to upgrade IPC, and stop "testing"/"optimising".... you are over-sold! That is all. Fix it already.

@AfriMan - still nothing back on my support ticket, nor has anything been done to fix my CZ. Still can't test line, or use the other features. I also noticed from the Capped thread, that more people are having the same issue. It can't all be Telkom's fault again.
When will this be fixed?

And seeing that nothing has been ordered ahead of time in terms of IPC (i.e. capacity planing), we are more than likely once again, going to wait MONTHS for Telkom to deliver and blame Telkom because of their slow delivery, KNOWING that we should have put in orders months ago already actually...

We've been through this, time and time again. It's the same ***** all over again. Perhaps its time for a new CTO?

EDIT: Frankly, it's approaching the end of the year again as well... Can you say.... Freeze Periods? uh-oh...

Before 7am this morning, it was the usual 5+MB, now sitting with crap. Again....

Come on, FFS. I am paying the full price for this service every month, yet for the last two months this has become the norm. Not shaped/throttled and guaranteed full line speed at all times? BULL****!!!!!!!!!

I am sending an email to AH today stating I refuse to pay full price for this as I am not getting the service I pay for.
Afriman/Afriguy/Afrigirl, I know it is not your fault and that you guys and lady are trying your best here, but I see no reason to pay a premium price for sub-par service anymore.

Same here, going at 40% of my 10m since 8am on the dot.

I cannot see how the hell we are expected to believe that this is a contention issue. If it was, we would be fighting each other for that bandwidth on a minute-by-minute basis. Our speeds would not be limited at an exact speed. This shows that we are ALL being managed. This is no different to what Axxess has done with their business accounts.

BTW, when you say "contention" you are admitting over-selling. It means that an ever increasing number of people are trying to get a piece of the same pie. How much more evidence does one need to know that you have to "buy a bigger / more pie"?
There is nothing to consider/optimise/work out/investigate/etc. - it's very simple.... BUY MORE PIE (IPC). ;)

Currently getting 2meg on an 8 meg business account. I really do not have the energy to deal with Afrihost support staff. Sending pointless tracerts again and again and being told that there is nothing wrong with my account is way too exhausting.

Will be moving on tomorrow finally. I do get that no one offers the same type of business uncapped service that afrihost offers for the same price, but the past few weeks I am seeing the same pattern that happened with the home uncapped service when the previous IOS update hit. There was also a demand that spiked and never let up.

Looking at jinx graphs this started happening all over the country, not just on afrihost 3 weeks ago, and does not look like it is getting better anytime soon.

I know that we are making some additional network changes. Some too effect last night and we saw immediate improvement and we will continue to make adjustments to bring performance to the level that we expect. Our technical director assured me that this is his top priority right now and he is working with all our network people and upstream providers on this.

I know we're not at our best right now, but I can promise that we've got our best people working on this. We're trying to look at every possible solution to improve your experience now, as well as long term solutions. We'd like to make sure that if we do have to go the upgrade route, we know exactly what is required and we can plan for the long term and potential financial impact.

Woah, came here expecting better results than Axxess' disgusting AUP move on their Business accounts and....well, looks like every ISP is shot to hell at the moment. Where are they days when Mweb where the good guys, prices dropped monthly, uncapped kept getting cheaper and TELKOM (of all people) actually provided a decent uncapped ISP? Sad times.

If you want a good uncapped experience you need to pay for it. Simple as that.

Lately it seems if you want a good uncapped experience at all you may need to start your own ISP.

I upgraded to 10Mbps business uncapped the last time the normal uncapped Afrihost services slowed to an unusable, grinding halt for weeks on end. Looks like it's starting to happen again, but based on the feedback on the Afrihost capped products it looks like they're just as bad. What's left to upgrade to?

Mybroadband timing out and barely more than 1Mbps on a supposedly unshaped 10Mbps account that is marketed for use during business hours. Come on Afrihost, if your best people are already working on it, does that mean this is really the best you can do?
