Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback

I cancelled my AH account at the beginning of the month, but decided to re-activate my account as twitch streaming is much better than before. I just hope they can fix this whole capacity issue soon.

I will probably get flamed for this, but I still think that this account needs to be throttled as soon as the user reaches +-500GB of data.
These mofo's using up to a TB of data a month is just spoiling it for all of us

My household uses a huge amount of data every month and I can agree with that. On a very heavy month we use around 450GB. I can't imagine how people use anywhere near a terabyte.

Just because you don't have the need for it, other people might.

Remember these are BUSINESS accounts.

How about a suggestion that you and your family go on the HOME accounts instead.

I think I'd rather leave the choice of product up to the individual. While we label our accounts as Uncapped and Business - we don't have any restriction about who can sign up for what.

I think it depends on the needs of each person (or sometimes of an office). In general, heavy users are individuals not businesses (as they also prioritise their networks for priority services). My personal feeling is that you'd have to do a lot of P2P downloads to really use that much traffic. While you can use substantial data streaming HD content, it's very difficult to consistently saturate your line to that extent. My feeling, anyway.

I totally understand your point here (will try to protect you from said flaming) ;)

We've never like the idea of throttling. It's always felt punitive and we've always felt that there is something uncool about someone being punished for using our product. We prefer the shaping method because it still gives good use of client's line, and still allows those services that put strain on the network (like torrents) to some extent. I don't think we'll go back to throttling (which we used to do) very quickly, but I guess it's a topic that will always come up.

YES... YOU WILL :)

10MB line has the potential to do 2.4TB a month.... why shouldn't I be able to DL half that, if I choose ?
High usage users are not the problem - don't believe the MWEB-fueled BS/HYPE about "bandwidth Hogs" causing the issues.
The real issues are greedy ISP's that over-sell their network and cross-subsidise accounts. ISP's pay for bandwidth (pipe size), and NOT amount of data. They expect someone who pays a premium NOT to use what they pay for???? REALLY????

This is the same as Eskom in this country.... "Here's a service, pay the premium, but you are not allowed to use it between time X and Y..."

W T F ?????

In other markets around the world, such as Japan, China (Hong Kong), ISP's bundle multiple services with high bandwidth, encourage their users/clients to use it, and then charge a very very low/respectable price per month. This is the model we should be looking at in this country.

I sent you a pm earlier... any news/ideas?

I'm currently experiencing very slow speeds on Afrihost 10mbps Business uncapped. I'm in JHB. Anyone else experiencing the same?

The Afrihost website also seems to be down. As of 11:39 today, DownForEveryoneOrJustMe.com reports that the website is down. It's not just me.

My account is speed testing very well, but Youtube is streaming like crap. I did however torrent a file not long ago at 700+KB/s, so I'm not sure what the problem is. Afrihost's website is down for me too btw.

Edit: Things seem back to normal.

This is absurd, a business that is slowly dying, you guys used to be the best about a year ago...
Now, we are lucky if we get flawless internet for 3 consecutive days...

Sincere apologies for this, I know this has gone on for too long :(
I'm trying to get some updates from our team, but I am seeing a lot more positive feedback on speeds.

I'll keep you posted.

Had to cancel 3 x 20mbps business uncapped lines. Simply too slow. :(
Now the hunt for another provider.

I am currently shopping around.

IS Ignite Business Uncapped it looking good.

Sorry Afrihost, you guys have had over 4 Weeks to fix this recurring problem!

I have been very calm and quite.... Enough is enough now.

Me and my 5 Lines are going elsewhere now........
