Hi there

looking at your tests, definitely seems like this is an exchange issue. The latency, when it happens, seems to be on the Telkom infrastructure and definitely much higher than we are seeing in general on either Afrihost or Afrigreen.

It could also be a line issue, so I would definitely try calling Telkom out to confirm if there is congestion or if this is a line issue. Testing with another ISP account, as someone suggested, is also a good way to confirm if this is a line/exchange or network issue :(

I have been advised now,the problem is with telkom!:mad: After almost a week of this, and saying the line is fine they tell me now its faulty(Congestion problem)probably waited for more people to complain first! Really think telkom needs to substitute their customers with data,a dongle and a x amount of data. Some of us work from home and need internet:mad:

I doubt that they will be able to do that, it's a lot of additional costs to offer people failover like this. Nowadays, I would definitely encourage everyone to have some kind of failover for data, just in case. Especially with load shedding on the other end of that equation :(

Yeah i know they wont, but they don't factor in the "work lost" from a business ,due to the days they have your line off. Its not our problem to go and buy extra data, hence why i said they need to compensate u,i mean i paid for the adsl line for that day and its unusable. I would fully understand if they send u a email, that they will be working on your line from 8-5 on this day,but it being off for days and telling me its fine. Sometime i forget we live in a 3rd world country!

Thanks for the quick response tho,how long will the afrigreen be running? i see its the same amount of data that my other account is.

I totally get your point here, but I reckon it's like that in any country you go to. Stuff breaks and the companies need time to get it sorted. I do know that Telkom will give you a credit if you log a dispute and that is usually within 48 hours. So I don't think it's completely unreasonable at all.

Even in Europe and the US, stuff happens and most people need to have a backup option. Big difference there is that most business, restaurants, hotels, etc offer loads of free WiFi.

True, was also merely saying they need to inform us,and have a day or two to fix it. Rather than saying its fine for days and then only telling me its a telkom error, and not being able to give me a time when they will go and fix it,not the way it should be handled. Like i said problems occur and i fully understand, then again we all know telkoms customer service. Just hoping it gets sorted within the next 24hrs

I'm really not sure around dates.
We want to make sure it's running at it's best before making any further decisions.

The reason your @afrigreen and @afrihost.co.za show the same usage is that data is linked.

Good luck trying to sort the congestion out. Been having that problem since Feb and nothing more has been done.
Multiple fault numbers, calls etc and nothing.
If you do somehow manage to sort it out quickly - please please please let me know how.
Otherwise good luck.

Internet started working about 2 hours ago,i read telkom was doing testing on 200 exchanges, maybei was one of them, they told me they were working on the exchange due to congestion, maybe it was also the testing. Internet is fine for now, seems a bit slower than usual. Telkom trying to squeeze in more customers on a dslam than what it can handles,is that the root of congestion?

It may have been due to maintenance, hopefully it's nothing serious/ permanent :)
Keep me posted on how things go for the rest of the evening.
